Another possibility is that the fairy homeworld or Zanaris is the hominoid homeworld. Apparently, Bik created the fairies in an effort build a perfect world. The fairies somehow later acquired a way of leaving the planet and ended up finding Zanaris. There are a couple possibilities that I can think of:

-Perhaps Bik experimented with other types of hominoids before settling with fairies and those hominoids found a way off the planet just like the fairies and had diverging evolutionary paths for each planet that they ended up on.

-Perhaps the fairies are the common ancestor of apes, humans, gnomes etc. and got to the different worlds either through the way the found Zanaris or after they found Zanaris.

I OBJECT!

The Fairy echo in the Memorial to Guthix strongly implies that the Zanarian Fairies are a hybrid or rather a mutualistic symbiosis between two species Guthix found on two separate nature worlds: An almost hivemind intelligent fungus very much like a super-evolved Cordyceps and a flying, teleporting invertebrate species that somehow affected the climate of their planet.

Simiiforms and of course Homonids are not invertebrates, not fungi, and certainly not invertebrate/fungal symbionts.

I was really pleased when Jagex went the invertebrate route with the fairies, because it made my thread about fairy eyeballs years ago not so crazy in retrospect. (HA! TAKE THAT, LORE FORUM! THEY HAVE COMPOUND EYES!) There are some things about Guthix's Fairy Echo that make me question the accuracy of Guthix's theorizing, of course, especially the part that contradicts the lore about Cheanannais. But, Cheanannais was only mentioned in the Lore Q&A at RuneFest 2016, and Memorial to Guthix was an in game update from January 2017.

Now, just because Guthix thinks something happened a certain way doesn't mean it did happen that way, but I think we can trust his judgment about the anatomy of fairies.

The faeries are soooo cute with their antennae and butterflyesque wings! Arthropods and fungi often have very close relationships (symbiotic, parasitic, or otherwise), making this connection even better!

If it hasn't been mentionned yet, Kalphites have evolved from scarab beetles, according to the Varrock museum natural history section, that is. There are probably some other things I rushed through when doing getting some kudos, so here's the full transcript;kinda confirms evolution:

http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Natural_history_quiz

Saying how old the universe is, is hard to say, though it's safe to say Elder Gods experimented with building worlds until the perfect one came about, after which Guthix brought some sentient races along. From what we've seen I'd say gazillions of years seems probably a bit exaggerated, and for me the aeons remark seems really just like a remark to point out the feeble and small existence of mortal lives on the arrow of time compared to divine beings that have been at least for thousands of years before us, as far as we know

From my humble understanding, evolution is marked by an increase of complexity by echoing in the layers of our organism through the arrow of time, driving change and fluctuations in genetics through a continuous adaptation (epigenetics), essentially becoming more intelligent, essentially creating very unique scenarios, resulting in differing species.

In the end, we'll never really know an exact age or how our development came about, unless Jas or her buddies will find the patience and interest to share more about the universe's origins with us, which seems unlikely, though it's possible, considering Sliske's soul is still wandering within our minds- and we knew he had a charismatic side to be very convincing, even to an elder god, so, hey, maybe some day he'll prove to be useful, in whatever way.

I've also got a side question for you to answer, if you're up for it: as a fairy's ' life essence consists of pure magic instead of a soul, how does that relate to the anima mundi, and does their "lifeforce" spirit pass on to the underworld like us, or are they screwed like the gods?
Sometimes one must operate within the
shadows
to serve the
light
. For a man makes no noise over a good deed, but passes on to another as a vine to bear fruits again in season, in order that the world may ever be new.

I think the pure magic of a fairy is their soul. Just because they don't have a "conventional" soul doesn't mean they can't go to the underworld or act like something with a soul can.

That's just my wishful thinking, though. It's also entirely possible that their energy simply fizzles out or dissipates when they die, which makes me sad :(

They don't fizzle! Quite the opposite! Pixies explode when they get overly emotional!

Uh, that is if I am remembering the dialogue from a long ago Christmas event correctly.

With the fairies being part fungus part invertebrate, I would think that their anima and therefore whatever is analogous to a soul is naturally vastly different than a human's just as an insect's open circulatory system and haemolymph is vastly different than a mammal's closed blood and lymph circulatory systems.

We never actually ever see a fairy die in game, right? Injured, yes, sick, yes, but killed? The Fairy Godfather got sucked into a dimensional rift.
