2. angels are the most powerful/kind icyenes. First notion would include Zilyana and Padomenes; while the second would include people like Elspeth and probably queen Efaritay . I think those pictures from Citharede do also hold only 2.

Just a small correction; Elspeth wasn't an icyene but a human. She served under the icyene Commander Mazakon, though. Everything else you said is just as good a guess as anybody else's.

I personally think that angels where just a poor choice of wording from the past, and at the time of development, the developer never even thought it would matter.

I think they either might have forgotten about the Aviantese and the only thing they remember about them is what their bodies looked like but not their heads so they replaced their heads with a human head and called it angels or they preferred to replace the heads of aviantese with human heads and called them angels.

From runescape wiki:

"Armadyl's name bears a striking resemblance to the word "Almadel" a wax tablet which according to The Lesser Key of Solomon is used to summon angels. The Almadel is supposed to bear a strong connection to the skies, and Armadyl himself is often associated with the skies of Gielinor as well as having winged followers (aviantese) that can resemble angels."

The thing is angels have never been said to be avian, and pretty much only Saradominists talk about angels.

Elspeth was some kind of a half human/ half icyene, as told by the icyene commander himself, on the quest's lore article, Song from Before the War:

Original message details are unavailable.
"People of Saradomin!" Mazakon boomed. "I am here to present to you one of your own! A human, though with icyene blood in her veins . A holy warrior who has slain a dozen of Zamorak's demons, not with a sword or spell, but with her voice! And she is here now to sing to you tales of the War. Ladies and gentlemen--Elspeth of the Cithara!"

It was Elspeth, the singer, wrapped once more in her huge grey cloak. "I don't have icyene blood," she said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Sergeant Mazakon added that part of the story. People didn't believe that an ordinary human could do the things I'd done."
I couldn't help staring. For an ordinary human, her beauty was even more exceptional. "But the way you sang..."
"I practice a lot."
I didn't contradict her, but I knew that no ordinary mortal could have sung the way I had heard Elspeth sing. Perhaps she was icyene-blooded and didn't realise it, or perhaps Saradomin had chosen to bless her with her supernatural voice.
The Asgarnian ale must flow.

@Kveer I agree religion is an interesting topic. I do not personally like religions themselves but they are still an interesting topic. I like Runescape because it has interesting religions.

My biggest example of my interest in religion as a discussion topic and a story topic is Star Wars which I love whereas any other films consider sci fi I generally dislike. Whereas Star Wars has much more in common with mysticism and religion.

Sounds like a case of Devs bringing real life sayings into the game, without realizing the implications. Perhaps if its that much of a problem, they'd change it, if they had something that fit just as well, without being hard to understand.

I didn't notice either though... so yeah....
"We call it being a hero"
"That's interesting, we call it utter stupidity"

Well, when you basically have Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, etc.. in the same game, already 90% taken from J.R.R Tolkien, I really think the last thing we'd need to worry about is whether 'angels' exist, or their mentions are just purely linguistic :P

Same thing with horses.
I'm too Unaligned to have a forum signature.

Yes because Tolkien was 100% original in everything he created...

Anyway Horses are unlikely to be purely linguistic but do grist or did exist at some point depending who gets to make that call.

I do think you are right with angels though. I am not too happy with them being mentioned at all but ah well what can you do?
