It took me a while, but I found another one from Mod Jack showing they intentionally intend for Saradomin to not be a complete monster:

So now that Saradomin is playing an active part in events rather than being essentially a background detail of his church, we as writers have to choose how we approach him as a character. We could:

1) Sweep the "all is not as it seems" under the table and decide that Saradomin is in fact perfect and good and always does the right thing. (Arguably we went a bit too far in this direction with Guthix.)

2) Decide that Saradomin is a villain who has been tricking everyone the whole time and have him turn out to be a monster.

3) Make Saradomin a complex, multi-faceted character who handles different situations differently, has consistent motivations and behaviours, and like any of us tries to do the right thing but doesn't always succeed. Sometimes when he fails it's due to his own failings rather than the world preventing him.

As writers we'd always prefer to do 3 for any character, especially the gods who are so significant to the story. I think a lot of the time there's an assumption that only categories 1 and 2 exist, and player opinion of gods swings wildly from 1 to 2 as each new revelation is revealed and it's either a good thing or a bad thing.'

Well, in Paladin's defense, it's easy to see fictional characters as real people, especially someone like Saradomin who is/was a human and shares many traits with us.

Hell, I consider an anime character my girlfriend and give her gifts and compliments like she's a real person.

That's completely normal and nothing's wrong with that.
I will protect Gielinor. Zaros has no love for its people.

There are still people who see having a waifu as creepy (even though an argument could be made for me having one).

Yeah, it's normally something I keep to myself. I just brought it up because it seemed semi-relevant to what Nullius said, sorry if I sounded like I was blogging for a second.

Still, there's no need to act like Saradomin is on par with Asmodeus and Hextor like some people here think. That's just blowing stuff out of proportion.

I meant Paladin's Saradomin fetish... He takes this thing way too seriously, to the point where it's just sad.

It's like Paladin saying "Your imaginary friend looks stupid!" .

You can't really get offended, because your imaginary friend isn't even real.

In this case, the imaginary friend is Saradomin, and Paladin acts like Saradomin is real and that by offending something that does not exist outside of a Virtual Reality called Runescape, he's somehow offending us.

If you think about it, Runescape is nerdy. Now debating Runescape lore is the epitome of nerdiness. So I am not surprised some people get really intense about it. I have too in the past.

Still, I understand full well what Nullius is talking about. At times it seems like Paladin's anger at Saradomin is unhealthily consuming him. This is why I've been wondering where Paladin's anger at Saradomin actually comes from because it certainly can't be the character itself. Personally, I have two theories that hinge on him equating Saradominism to the Catholic Church: either he's mad because he's a militant Atheist in real life and Christianity is his arch nemesis, or because he's actually a devout Catholic and feels like Saradomin's actions make the church look like power-hungry monsters which personally offends him.
