Remember that Seren experimented on the elves for ages, which according to that book you get from running laps on the agility course, immensely changed their appearance. I reckon the inconsistent pigmentation stems from that. Nice question
That actually makes sense, I will have to get my hands on that book tho. Thanks for your answer!

Other than Haluned and Eluned are there any nonwhite elves? If not maybe it has something to do with being a shard of Seren
There are several in Prifddinas just walk around a bit and you will find them.
Well, we've only seen one small section of Tarddiad, so it's entirely possible that there are other areas where black skin would benefit them evolutionarily. Heck, some trees might be releasing a ton of uv rays and we'd never know. Or maybe elven skin color has a different evolutionary benefit to human skin color.
Remember that we have only seen about one square mile at most of Tarddiad. Remember that Tardiadd is an entire planet that could have diverse biomes, or at the very least areas that receive more sunlight than others.
In fact, it could be that elves were originally humans, and all differences between you and us are due to Seren's changes. Perhaps many mortal races - even all - were once the same, and the differences are just the work of the gods. We will probably never know.
Why
is this such a big deal to some of you? In fact, the mere fact that it
does
bother you makes you racist. It's a fantasy game. There's elves, centaurs, goblins, ogres, bird people, talking animals, zombies, demons (this list could go on for ages) and you're complaining that black elves don't "make sense"?
Why
shouldn't there be black elves? (Actually, don't respond to that because there isn't a single answer that wouldn't make you sound like an offended "not-to-be-racist-BUT-[insert racist comment]"-kind of person.)
Saying that it isn't realistic isn't a valid argument because elves living in a city of magical crystals isn't realistic in the first place and that's that. What difference does it make? None. Oh wait, yes, it does. It adds representation and a touch of common sense to the game. Elves may not be human but they're humanoids and your whitewashing fantasies shouldn't, and do not, belong here.
Wouldn't be surprised if next you're going to complain that it doesn't make sense to have female werewolves since the name is an Old English compound of the words
were
(human male) and
wulf
(wolf).
The OP appears to understand that there exists an underlying magical law to the RuneScape universe. Yeah,
elves and fairies
. Woo.
But that does not discard any biological rationale for the particular formations of life on Gielinor and the rest of the multiverse.
That said, it
does
seem unusual that only a handful of elves are significantly darker-toned than their kin. The OP simply feels that the evolutionary advantage is not readily apparent, given their historically murky wood-dwelling lifestyle.
You would be able to glean that much from the conversation if you didn't have so much damn tofu all up in your eyes.

Then we might just as well discuss how unusual it seems that a great big deal of the Kharidians are of light skin, given their historically sunny desert-dwelling lifestyle.
Perhaps you would be able to see these issues from a whole different perspective if you weren't knee-deep in your Eurocentric take on fantasy.
But please, do carry on with your grown-up attitude and gender-targeted mockery.

Dude, Im asian in real life. I have been bullied because of my race. I have experienced real racism. Don't throw out false accusations and water down the word racism. Because this is simply not racism. I don't have a problem with black people, I simply wondered why there where black elves. I have studied biology, evolution, evolutionary psychology, genetics and biochemistry. With that knowledge I simply thought it was illogical that some elves where black. Especially when everything els in Runescape seems to follow the principles of evolution. However some people in the post have supplied me with very satisfactorily answers and Im happy I did post this thread, so I would learn those answers.
