I partly agree with a lot of what has already been said.

The thing I really don't like about the sixth age at all is the popularity aspect of it all. Bandos died because he lost a popularity contest. They put in Garlandia and other really badly written pieces on Saradomin for the sake of hurting his popularity to even out world events.

RoP and DoC2 were back burnered because they kept going up against Mahjarrat or Seren related quests that offered way more rewards, and honestly this was a pattern that expanded well beyond lore with Runelabs we had a near constant flow of bossing or PvP updates that died a few months after they were released and now popularity is based on rewards.

well.... i love the mahjarrat quests personally :3

but yea i hope overall after sliskes endgame they slow down the pace cuz as it stands right now were goin to be killing half the elder gods before the end of next year which in my opinion is WAY to fast.

i think they need to slow the overall pace of the story down finish up 5th age quests whiles instead devoting new storys solely to the gods firs to flesh them all out further. mainly put the whole elder god series on hold. because at least to me that seems like the big climax, like how am i suppose to fear X god when i can kill an elder god. (unless jagex does a stupid kryptonite thing)

maybe have a world event or 2 tB&tB style only with lets say... 2 generals of said god, so if they wanted to imput a new character they could start with him in that way. i mean after all said god wouldnt be commanding every single fight.

sorry if i rambled on a bit much :3

There was nothing wrong with Garlandia that using them as more than a filler would not have solved. In other words giving them a real reason for being about. It was like dropping a new character into tv soap that potentially rocks the boat so there was a story to be used, and then never doing anything with them. No follow up. At the very least a face off between Garlandia and Zilyana...a short face to face with Owen...something!

Probably a bit late now. Can't see any way of shoehorning them into DoC2 lol.

Point being that it was more poor utilisation than being badly written. Badly written is having a major character dress up in a bath towel and a helmet with a couple of half-mellons on, then just moan their way through a "main event" while they just watch, O_o

I have to disagree I was never a fan of Garlandia, I was actually kind of optimistic when they said they wanted to make Saradomin a grey kind of character because it meant we were going to learn new things about him and his ideals that may sway us one way or the other.

Instead we got Garlandia and NPC whose story makes no sense. Her wings were ripped off so she couldn't hop island to island on New Domina but she somehow made it to another world? If her friends helped her get there or it was the Godless druid it still makes no sense why would they wait till after winter to save her? How did they actually travel to New Domina and know the island she was on?

And then in the podcast on Saradomin they even admitted that she was put just to even out his popularity on world events, and what really makes no sense is that they can put her in instantly to bring down Saradomin's popularity but they can't even take the time to put him and Armadyl on the surface world with some dialogue? It makes no sense.

That's the problem. Jagex make up a small short story and leave it. They go and make up more and leave it.

That's the problem today. They don't focus on this. They make this. They leave this. They go and make that. They leave that and go make another.

I have to agree, the way the "Sixth Age" played out seems to have suffered due to a lack of planning. Yeah:
- We want Zaros back
- So Guthix needs to die
- So now all gods can come back
- We'll make Sliske a big thing
[something happens]
- Sliske's End Game

Most other games, the storyline is set a lot sooner.
Technical details are reworked as they go (something to ambitious? fine, we'll scale it down or take a diff road, but still tell the story the way we need to)

Player backlash to World Events probably didn't help, too many different projects getting thrown about, and even side stories (Bacon quest? really?).
Plus their efforts into quests themselves becoming even bigger and bigger such that they hamstrung themselves to barely being able to do 5-6 a year. That's on top of trying to shoehorn in a few 5th Age finales.

What they should have done was a clear and concise storyline start to finish.
Quests and events and more coming in based on that.
Too big? We make it smaller.
Player base didn't react well to something? Can we make it an option in a player quest instead of community driven?

"Rebuilding Seren" was something of a goal. IT came out as a quest instead of a World Event.
I'd say "Tuska Comes" would have been better as a player focused quest instead of a World Event. Goal: Step 1 pick a faction. Step 2 get 100% charge on the spear repeating until you do it.

The Sixth Age has had plenty of interesting ideas, but in many cases the execution has been lacking.

First off, I would have handled the whole 5th Age/6th Age division the same way the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time handled its two eras: with two versions of the overall game world map set in different eras. And the player would be able to freely travel between the two eras as much as they like. Therefore, we wouldn't have the incongruity of 5th Age quests being set against 6th Age backdrops. The H.A.M. HQ would still be under the ruins in the forest between Lumbridge and Draynor in the 5th Age, and H.A.M. would be severely impacted by the whole crater thing in the 6th Age, with a division among the surviving H.A.M. members.

This would also allow more changes in the world in the 6th Age that otherwise would have messed things up and made things unavailable.

Also, the second World Event between Armadyl and Bandos wouldn't have been to the instant death. It would have ended with Bandos being wounded, and the followup quest would deal with his fate. Would some Bandosian attempt to become the new Big High War God? Of course Zanik would get involved, and she'd probably attempt to reform one faction of the Bandosians, but there wouldn't be that insane choice like The Mighty Fall.

Xenia wouldn't have been derailed and done away with just because some J-Mod didn't like her, as in Heart of Stone. She'd still play a part in the whole main story, but also have important information about the Eastern islands and Shanomi's homeland. Oh, and if she DID die, she'd be reincarnated as a cat and her cat form would be there in every Xenia place, including Signature Heroes meetings (this being foreshadowed by her dialogue about the Tail of Two Cats quest).

There would be more Armadyl content, where we learn more about the Aviansie and Armadyl's followers and their beliefs and customs. (continued)

There'd still be of course the Mahjarrat and Sliske content. But there'd also be more exposure given to the Godless as well. There have been hints as to dissension among the Godless (the Kara-Meir conflict with Garlandia, Zanik's having doubts as to whether they know what they're doing, and so on), so expanding upon this dissension and having it be a plot point in a quest or two involving the Godless could be a good idea.

Taverley and Burthorpe would still be having troll problems in the 5th Age, but not the 6th.

And all in all, there'd be a lot less confusion, and it'd be clear what content is 5th Age and what is 6th Age.

Garlandia made it to another world via portal...she just snuck in with the others. Not too hard. That said, she was poorly timed. Why are we hearing about Saradomin in a Armadyl vs Bandos event? Why not instead show us a group of Godless Aviansie who want to save their people from Armadyl's warmongering? Or perhaps some Goblins who feel that Bandos is unfit for rule and keeping them from their true potential as a warrior race? Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.

That still doesn't make any sense how did she sneak into a portal? How did she get off the island she was deserted on?

It doesn't really make sense why she was in World Event 2 but then again as the mod quotes and then the podcast on Saradomin indicated, she wasn't put in to make sense, to have a real story that gets expanded on, or to be of anything other than a balancing act to balance out Saradomin in world events. Seeing as her faction did the best in WE3 and the faction she was created to reduce did the worst so in truth her character was a complete success on what the intention of putting her in was for, it sounds like from the podcast though they get that people didn't like it and they are going to give Saradomin better treatment, but anything they promise on Saradomin has to be taken with a pretty large grain of salt.
