Also: the above account would help to explain the intriguing figure of Thormac - a sorcerer, skilled in the construction of mystic staves, and maintaining connections with the Mage Guild.

@everyone else: I am enjoying your responses too; I think some of them might combine nicely with what I'm suggesting, though I haven't attempted to integrate any of them here.

What Aquamancer said ^^

The Seers were a group of Guthixian Druids who foresaw the attacks by trolls on Taverly, so they decided to move west and establish a village of seers.
They also foresaw someone giving it the very boring name "Seer's Village", so they just went with it.

The Seer's Council isn't completely composed of seers. There are a few 'mundanes' or laymen on it to watch over the more day to day operations:
- building and infrastructure repairs
- tourism
- banking
Areas where common sense trumps trying to see the future.

Nah. I think we should stick with the Fremennik origins, since the majority agrees.

I believe the Seer's Council should be composed entirely of Seer's, because... Logic. (or at least, people with some kind of visual magic ability).

@Atilla You need a tl;dr version of that, because I do not expect Mod Kelpie to have to keep up with headcanon of that magnitude.

* The Seers could have potentially told the Sinclair family to build the castle as they foresaw the arrival of King Arthur and told them that in return they would house a powerful ally who would protect their lands from all threats.

It all sounds good but this. Last I heard Mod Stu? was working/thinking on or of doing a bit of a retconning in regards to King Arthur. It might be worth trying to implement some of his ideas now before he has to go and change a bunch of stuff later.

Thanks everyone for the information and speculation so far.

* Possible reasons they moved to the area was out of fear that their 'magic' would be punished after the discovery of rune essence and the resulting tensions. Or maybe they just saw the future and knew they should go settle there?

To me, the former sounds too much like the Moonclan, so I would scrap that.

Mod Kelpie said :

* Whilst the Seers may be Guthixian, they perhaps allowed the building of the church and allowed other cultures into the village because they again saw a future where cultures had to coexist.

* In terms of the look of the village, we are going with it being slightly run down. As the council are constantly looking into the future, they aren't thinking about the problems in the present and therefore don't upkeep their buildings too well until they are really needed.

Thoughts?

I'm a little concerned about there being many cultures integrated, but only one being in charge of infrastructure, and the infrastructure being... crap.

(But like, please tell me Armadyleans are a part of those cultures)

If you're just going for some general lore in the area, then I think that what you have now is good.

That Saradominist altar could have just been a dressed up Guthixian one. As foe it being run down, since they look at things long term, could it have been built to last? EG, Built to last 1000 years blah blah blah!... and they haven't done any spring cleaning since? :P

I wonder if that long term view could also explain them being there as a need for a mediator would be obvious to such a long view people.

And if the Seer's council dealt with inter-faction conflicts (when anyone bothers to tell them) they deal with it. That could explain Seer's Court house as well as it's very long legal arm.. All down to them being the "buffer" I mentioned earlier.

I understand the original Seers Village seers being Fremmenik in origin, but possibly include some others? If they accept other cultures, I imagine that others that might possibly have access to that magic might have joined them, perhaps a couple seers of alternate races.

Oh, nearly forgot. The battered book mentions "magi" who closed down the Elemental Workshop since they thought the ore was too powerful. So either "magi" is a generic word for wizards/seers, another name for the Seers Council, or an organization that no longer exists. I'm too Unaligned to have a forum signature.

While I very much like the idea of past Fremennik origin, them being exiled for being seers would be strange since Peer the Seer is a thing and seems to be well accepted in Rellekka. Just going with the idea of a vision that caused the group to uproot and move would be fine in my eyes. It's simpler and is a bit more consistent with existing Fremennik characters.

As for the churches, I'd go with the idea that other seers around the world began to gather there after learning of the Fremennik group's settlement, allowing a mingling of cultures.

You must kill the Knights of the Round Table with this! It's high time to get rid of them and convert them to something new, so if you don't have time for that I highly suggest ignoring them for the time being.

Otherwise, I like everything you've said Kelpie - it's a good fit for the current Seers and it'll be nice to both see the city updated and get some love for it at the same time. Would love to see some mentions of the Sorcerer's Tower too, and maybe something with the Divination colony to have the Seers embrace it somehow.

Finally, how is this planned to be delivered? Book? Tale?! :D

I must object to this, please DO NOT make it run down! Again this was one of the major problems with the catherby rework that people really didnt like, that and the fact it was completely changed (which again would be a REALLY bad idea to repeat). Catherby used to be a really bright and peaceful place but now it feels dingy and dull, so not only did that rework destroy the look of catherby it also destroyed the feel of it too. Do not make the same mistake with seers, keep the feel of it the same and as a bright and peaceful little town. Its really important to keep the nostalgia still alive so it still feels like seers, we've had enough "run down reworks" already with rimington and catherby so we certainly dont need another. My advice is take from lumbridge, that has a similar feeling that would suit seers better

News of this rework worries me greatly after seeing what they did to catherby and graphical changes since then, i just feel the people doing the reworks lately dont understand the balance of how to keep the nostalgia alive and are using seriously substandard texturing

@Games, I personally love the way Catherby looks. My opinion vs. yours. If you really think people will hate a run-down look, then get them commenting here, otherwise, give some constructive criticism rather than just saying

Original message details are unavailable.
I think Catherby is gross, don't make this place that literally nobody goes to look weird too.

I do, however have some concerns about the run-down look, but if you guys already have the modeling for it done, then idc, but if they haven't gotten to it yet, I agree that something brighter and more nature-esq would be nice.
