I did not see it explicitly mentioned, perhaps because I skimmed a lot of pages so apologies if it was:
In the Temple of Aminishi, one of the things prominently associated with Xau-Tak are black crystals (a more specific name for black rocks?)
I bring this up because there are two other gods who are heavily associated with crystals, Seren and Zaros.
While I do not believe Xau-Tak can be described as an elder god, I believe it is possible he is not unrelated.

The key thing here is that we know next to nothing about Xau-Tak, and are only make assumptions that he's not an Elder God because his name hasn't yet cropped up in the same places where the other Elder Gods are mentioned.

Additionally, we know next to nothing about Elder Gods themselves for that matter. We've been able to piece together bits and pieces, and have even met one, but there are still many more questions than answers. Even their status as most powerful beings in existence only stems from the lack of evidence so far suggesting there could be something above them, coupled with our inability to even comprehend how impossibly strong such a being might be.

The gods we know and have met all have one thing in common: they all either are (Jas/Mah), or have been touched by (or been in proximity to), or have absorbed the power of someone or something who has been touched (or been in proximity to) the power of an Elder God, such as the Stone of Jas.

We're the only person to have been in a position where we *would* have been elevated to godhood due to significant enough contact, yet were denied because of the World Guardian effect. That means one thing - Guthix had a power which, even in diluted form, could overpower and nullify aspects of the Elder Gods themselves.

Could it be that at some unknown stage in Guthix's existence, already with the powers of a god, Guthix may have come into contact with an even higher being? Or possibly a relic of an even higher being? Maybe only briefly. This might go a long way to explaining why Guthix, an ascended mortal, was more powerful than pureblood gods like Seren and Zaros.

If that's the case, who would this extremely high being be? There's currently only one being that could potentially fit the bill given how little we know, and that's Xau-Tak.

^I Really like that theory! I never looked at Guthix's power like that, but that's definitely what it did: repelled the power of the Elder Gods!

Is it still possible that Sliske also absorbed some of that power when he killed Guthix, or was that debunked in Endgame?
To those cursed by war and pest, Come into the light of Armadyl and rest. This is the law of Armadyl.

Personally I think that is a misunderstanding of Guthix's gift. I feel Guthix wasn't about being more powerful than the Elders. The Earth's magnetic field is quite insignificant, yet it can still funnel the ion storms from the sun, letting them wash over the planet and funneling them to the poles; this is very similar to Guthix's gift. The divine energy washes over us, but does not permeate us, and we can channel it away without taking it into ourselves.
The Stone is also not directly Elder energy, which we see from Mah can make it through our shield.

But that is off-topic. Guthix does not have black hands nor many crystals, so I think it is unlikely he is related--we already know it was Seren that taught him to manipulate anima anyway.
The Stone however, is associated with the crystals at BoL.

So i was redoing some old quests on osrs when an interesting thought came to mind. In the horror lore books we learnt about 3 "deities" that xau tak created under him. One was a multiheaded mother figure with 1 long neck, one was a moon god with a huge fish like eye in its center and the other was a pile of bones with a huge skull. We know that the 2nd one is likely representing a stalker so the original stalker inside ocularis and the 3rd is the skeletal horror. Well i was doing the sea slug quests when i thought what if the slug queen mother mallum was the mother figure. The book says the muanu worshiped her when going fishing and she brought back many foul looking fish, possibly the sea slugs? Her wiki entry says she's incredibly ancient and infact came from trying to take over other worlds previously, how else would she hop worlds without some godly help?

Sure she doesnt look like her statue but then again none of the statues look like their actual character. The moon god is clearly a regular stalker but the ocularis stalker doesnt have eyes of its own, and its HUGE. The skeletal horror wasnt always a pile of bones, it had an appearance before it "died". So what if these statues arnt directly what they looked like, but where representations of who the character was. So the mother figure having a long neck could be the long slug body, the many heads showing her hive mind to her slug children. Heck the "womanly figure" could well have been her female host body of the time

This would mean all the horror deities have similar strong telepathic abilities with 2 of them having the showing similar hive minds. Plus the sea slugs being part of xau taks creations fits with his collection of sea species. Ofcourse wouldnt mean anything now she's dead but still a rather interesting thought to fill in the only gap in that horror lore book

Also another interesting thought i had while discussing this with someone else concerned sliske. We know that at some point in the past he investigated someone who went mad cus of xau tak and said he'll look into this more but nothing came of it so far as we can see. We also know that even among mahjarrat sliske is notably more unhinged and deranged than others being rather psychotic and mad and thinking of it as a game. What if the reason he is so mad and basically like the joker is cus he did infact investigate xau tak further and was driven mad by him also

Now most people who where effected by xau tak where human and so lost their minds completely almost instantly but sliske being a mahjarrat would naturally be a far stronger being than a human. So he could have been effected too but was able to resist it enough to not completely loose himself but still be driven off the deep end slowly over time

With xau tak being the next big baddie in the story and sliske being likely the only "living" person with experience with him who hasnt lost his mind, it kinda makes sense they kept him lingering around after endgame, possibly to help out when xau tak starts causing problems

Guthix wasn't more powerful than the Elder Gods. His abilities could potentially act as a dampening field for various Elder God powers, but if an Elder God specifically wanted to bypass that ability he could still potentially do so.

The Elder God powers we usually see in RuneScape are the powers contained by artifacts such as the Stone of Jas ans Staff of Armadyl, as well as youg Gods like Zamorak and Saradomin. Thet have such a comparatively low strength that Guthix's power is sufficient to nullify them even when used by a young God who's specifically trying to affect the World Guardian.

Since all the "god power" on Gielinor originate from Elder Gods, Guthix's power should have some noticeable effect even when used on an Elder God, though an Elder God could - if they wanted to - overpower it. Guthix's power didn't originate from Guthix, it comes from somewhere else originally, so the power Guthix had would have been significantly weaker than that of it's origin.

I wason Goshima harvesting mushrooms when the malignant entity came along. I noticed the entity is surrounded by a bunch of black fog stuff, which reminded me of the fog that surrounds the portal in phase 2 of the fire with Seiryu. So that makes me think the entity is somehow related to Xau-Tak. I don’t know much about the entity as I haven’t done most of the tales of the arc, but if someone else knows more about where it comes from they might be able to find a connection
