I havent had a chance to read the 3 books yet but with todays update, Xau-tak makes a cameo appearance during the Seiryu boss fight as the creature that is corrupting him. The giant stone hand comes out but does not attack, just unleashes shadow enigmas that can heal the black stones. Destroying the black stones on Seiryu's back seems to break his link with him.
I have seen the dark universe yawning, where the black planets roll without aim;
Where they roll in their horror unheeded, without knowledge or lustre or name.

Its also revealed in the Crassian allegiance that the Ambassador is actually Kranon, the dragonkin Xau pulled away. So im wondering, did Kranon become an ambassador of Xau-Tak after opening the portals in ulthven kreath? Or was he always an agent of Xau and took the form of a dragonkin to fool the others into allowing the portal to be opened? The bts vid of july came out and confirmed that the 2nd elite dungeon is in the wildy, which is odd cus they said "the 2nd is related to an elder god but not one of the ones on gilenor". The only other elder was mah but if this isnt on freneskae and its not one of the 4 on gilenor then it seems to hint xau tak might be the 6th afterall?

However i was discussing this with someone and an interesting other possibility came about. We know xau tak is highly inspired by lovecrafts work so i got to thinking what if there was more in the story they're using. In lovecraft, there's an original elder god who is always asleep, the universe is made from his dreams while he's asleep and should he ever wake up, the dream would end and so would the universe

I didnt connect this before but thats awfully similar to the elders in rs. Creators who'd destroy the universe if they ever awoke. But more significantly it sounds like mah. She was always asleep plagued by nightmares and madness and interesting just like the elder in lovecraft work, her nightmares became real without her knowing. So we know at some point someone seemingly corrupted mah (speculation is wen cus of the blue crystal in her core) and from that point she had terrible nightmares. What if her madness and nightmares actually took form and escaped and what if that was xau tak. Think about it. if he's just a dream his form could shift like a dream, he's been shown to have hands very similar to mah and he's basically a walking nightmare who causes the same kind of madness to anyone else who comes near him. Plus he's been shown to be very adept at manipulating life into other forms. Something which only the likes of zaros (a demi-elder?) was able to do. This would put him on the same level

Its an interesting new thought which does make some sense and brings in more of the lovecraft story

I disagree. Forinthry used to be the Zarosian empire. Considering the significant role many of Mah's children played in the empire while it existed, I'd be surprised if the dungeon was related to any elder god other than Mah (plus I'm still not sold on the hypothesis that Xau is an elder).

Yeah forinthry used to be a zarosian area but this dungeon is very clearly dragonkin and i doubt they where cozy with sharing territory with others. Besides which these dungeons seem very clearly to be building upto the reveal of xau tak. I mean Xau tak made a slight appearance during the fight with the dragon in the first dungeon and it said it feels a similar presence in the wildy, evidentally indicating the 2nd dungeon

I'm not liking the idea of xau tak being another elder either. For the longest time i was going with the idea it was a normal creature who perhaps absorbed a bit of mah or something. But this new idea of xau tak being the very manifestation of mah's nightmare could hold ground. I mean it would make him a similar tier to zaros/seren, hence his ability to manipulate life into other forms just like zaros. It would make him atleast part elder but not full elder, so he can get around the edicts barrier. And if he's a literal nightmare he might not have full form which would fit in with zaros saying there was a 6th presence of "something else"

Only thing i cant quite figure out from this is how leng fits into the picture. Leng is the ancient ice planet but it was also a location in lovecraft novels, so i cant see its addition to the recent lore right as they're building upto xau tak as coincidence, he must have a connection to there. Maybe since its the ice planet and wen might well have been the one to corrupt mah, perhaps xau tak has a connection or is drawn to wen and the ice world, what with wen being the ice elder. I dunno, will need more info on this

Is everything discussed that involves Xau Tak discovered during the new elite dungeon story mode? Is the story mode safe death?

Story mode isn't safe death, but everything has reduced health and hits lower, it's still fairly easy to be killed by bosses if you mess up too many of their mechanics.
There's also bits of the story in pieces of hate quest.

I want to ask are there only 2 lore books from the first dungeon? and do they only get dropped from the first 2 bosses?

After seeing what Xau-Tak can do to a creature like Seiryu, I am beginning to believe he is also responsible for what happened to Amascut. Prevailing theory has been that it was her witnessing Mah that drove her to become the devourer. However, It is also known that she never showed signs of this disturbing personality until much later after her return from Freneskae. It would not be beyond Xau's power to corrupt beings of divinity as we have already seen. This also would connect the theory that slayer is a corruption spread by Xau as the release of Menaphos showed that Amascut orignally formed the order of the slayer masters which would help further Xau's agenda similar to what is going on in Aminishi. Perhaps Amascut can be saved and returned to her place as the goddess of rebirth, similar to restoring Seiryu. I have seen the dark universe yawning, where the black planets roll without aim;

Kuroryu's dialogue also seems to be connected to Xau-Tak and is quite revealing.

"So you can summon things from the spirit realm? Have you ever tried to summon from somewhere further away?"

Xau comes from somewhere further away than even the spirit realm.

"Two days from now, tomorrow will be yesterday, but both yesterday and tomorrow are not safe from the evils that transcend space and time."

Xau isnt just an ocean deity. He transcends time and space (this is previously known.)

"You will find a thing. It may be important. You will lose it. Along with your hope."
Despair seems to be a side effect of drawing Xau's attention. Seiryu mentions being in a state of despair.

"Do you really think you can save them?"
Well, one of them at least.

"A refreshing change is in your future, if you make it there."
More references of transcending time.

"I don't belong here."
Kuroryu responds with this answer to 4 player questions. Odd. Thoughts?

I remember Mod Wilson once said there were things in game we still hadn't discovered, did we ever find any more Xau-Tak references that had not been previously discussed? Supporter of
