Anyway, do you guys think the sea creature that fought Gentleman Mallard (the pirate leader) has anything to do with Xau-Tak? It's described as being enormous and possessing tentacles. Mallard was never seen again after being dragged off by the creature, but his rapier and a tentacle washed up on Mos Le'Harmless some time after the battle.

Would anyone mind transcribing the dialogue about the incident? It can be obtained by purchasing a Rapier from Smith on the Mos Le'Harmless docks.

I know it's been about two weeks, but nobody replied.

Original message details are unavailable.
Smith: Well, I'll tell ye the story, but it'll take a great deal of convincin' for me to sell you this rapier.

See, gentleman Mallard is a legend in these parts. His family had been rich, shipping all sorts of goods up and down the coast.

Then their rivals got together and had their ships sunk, one after the other, and his business partners were all either bought off or had... accidents.

With no money and only one ship left, he took to the life of a pirate, but no brigand was he.

He took only from those men that had brought about his downfall, was fair with his men, and generous with his loot.

Why, this island would have been wiped out by the shakes if he hadn't turned over his stash to buy medicine.

One day his ship was attacked by a huge sea creature that swept the decks of men with its tentacles.

The crew took to the lifeboats, and the last they saw of him the gentleman was stabbin' at the thing as it hauled the ship under the water.

A week later about ten foot of tentacle washed up on the beach, with his rapier embedded in it to the hilt.

I took it, cleaned it up, and I've been lookin' after it ever since.

I can't let it go for less than 25600 coins, and even then that's a bargain.

Ye think ye have what it takes to wield it?

I doubt it's connected. There are probably lots of large, tentacled monsters in the Eastern Sea.
What's the most convincing ship in the game?

From their mention in Kindred Spirits, I'm seriously beginning to feel as though Wilson's apparent pet god project might be getting built up as the next big enemy after the conclusion of the three (or at least two) pillars.
After all, given how MMOs work the Elder Gods can't be a problem indefinitely.

All the Xau-Tak references I have been working into the game have been in content I have worked on as a major contributor.
Keep looking though, you've not found all the clues yet!

Ah, I was working on several theories, one of which I thought was brilliant , but on none of them was Wilson a major contributor, so I guess they're all wrong.

Is there anything new to see in the Asylum if you're able to peer into the Shadow Realm? I still need the Ring of Visibility, and I can't take items into the mansion.

Eh, I'm still hopeful that the Sea Slugs will be tied in to Xau-Tak, since they are very loosely connected to the pirate series (Sluglings in Rum Deal), and clearly Lovecraft inspired. SITW left enough loose ends unresolved (Kennith's powers, Sea Slug controlled lobsters, Captain Marlin, ect.) that a Xau-Tak related sequel would be nice.

There's no hidden stuff in Broken Home, they had a very tight schedule and a tiny text budget, which is why we still haven't got the post-quest dialogue with Seneci****.

Also, apparently this thread is linked to from TVTropes.

Is it possible that Kennith and Rabid Jack could meet? Assuming that they both have 'master slugs' inside them, and that Kennith seems to be able to control his slug (it could have been that which killed Mother Mallum), I think that eventually after a few more years into the slug and pirate series' tie, they might meet and end up fighting on the raised Underwater City.

Another thing is, could Xau-Tak also be like an ascended coral? Tiny polyps slowly growing into a menacing presence which terrorised the people of Gielinor including Mallum's host Lucy, it may have split into smaller pieces. If Xau-Tak could split itself apart like Seren did, Rabid Jack might have the slugs' equivalent of Haluned, while Kennith has the Eluned which has been cooperating between Kennith's Concerns and Salt in the Wound.

Earlier in this thread I saw a discussion (prior to a clear link between Xau Tak and the asylum/Broken home being made) where it was uncertain how Ormod became insane. I wanted to point out that there is evidence that Ormod had an artifact that apparently drove him to his original murder, prior to his madness really setting in (which is explicity said in the text, after his son died was when he began to experience unsettled moods, which was some time after the nursemaid died). Here's the exact quote:

When the nursemaid committed a grave error by damaging one of my relics , I disciplined her as any good master ought to discipline a servant. Perhaps I did lose control of myself, but history will agree that the blame for her death lies with her. Had she been less clumsy, it need not have happened.

Edit: I also had some head canon that perhaps Ormod was driven to unburying the Asylum through some trick of Sliske's. Supposedly Ormod was told the cure to his ailment was hidden beneath the house by a toothless, sightless old man (I couldn't find any characters matching this description that actually existed). Its hard to put a timeline on his books but it seems like a very Sliske thing to do, to manipulate someone else into undigging the asylum to get the information he needed.

I highly doubt Kennith has a slug inside of him. It doesn't line up with anything we know, and it's a hypothesis only proposed as a meager attempt to explain Kennith's powers.
Powers that we have absolutely no evidence even remotely relate to sea slugs or Xau-Tak.

Similar situation with Jack regarding sea slugs, though he has a probable relation to Xau-Tak.

Kennith and Rabid Jack do not have sea slugs, lol. If they did, they wouldn't have any free will.

Ezekial DOES imply that Kennith's powers have a connection to the Slugs, and that there's "something fundamentally wrong with Witchaven that won't be addressed until the slugs are dealt with."

I think it's certainly possible that we haven't seen the last of the Slugs. Defeating Mother Mallum was almost too easy; how did that pillar just happen to be in the right place at the right time? Maybe, just maybe, some of the slugs were disloyal to her and were using you to get rid of her....so that a new Slug ruler could be crowned. Captain Marlin's slug might have been among this group (I never bought the idea that he was only pretending to be possessed).

It does seem to be the case that ordinarily, Sea Slugs are incapable of surviving without their queen (which explains why all the other villagers just went back to normal after she died). If there were rebel sea slugs, they would have had to find a way to become independent of her. Perhaps that other way....is Xau-Tak?
