Personal preference would be for Xau-Tak to be female. Association with necromancy, death and the ocean just screams "darkly feminine" to me. I thought they'd do the whole "dark aspect of the goddess" thing with Tuska but there wasn't even a hint of it, so perhaps they're holding off for Xau-Tak? Would be much more appropriate IMO.

I agree that the comedic nature of the pirate quests doesn't seem to lend itself to a serious bit of lore, but Jagex has form for that. The examples that stick in my head are the God Wars Dungeon being thawed by player-made lines of fire and the Falador Massacre being an important event in the recent Banner of Raddalin miniquest. The pirate questline has been quite tongue in cheek so far but there's a real darkness sitting at the core of it, so I wouldn't be surprised if Xau-Tak was the big bad behind it all.
One man's trash is another's treasure, and one man's cash buys another's pleasure.
So I'll rob from the cradle, and I'll rob from the grave; it's just human traffic, and I'm just a slave.

Xau-Tak is probably female, seeing as the goddess Calypso in Pirates of the Caribbean is also female and the Pirate series has more ties to the Pirates of the Caribbean.

Also notice how the name of the merchant who traded with the residents of Daemonheim, Hearthen, who features in the Nadir-saga and is mentioned by the Exile, resembles the term "heathen". Calypso in the Pirates of the Caribbean is a heathen goddess. Coincidence? I think not! Surely Xau-Tak is female.

You make a solid case, Inspector.

In all seriousness though, great thread.
Patrolling Lore FC almost makes you wish for a Great Revision.
