Dialogue From Newer Quests

~^+^~
Fate of the Gods

Conversation with Zaros

~^+^~
Main Topic: Zarosian Loyalists
Sub Topic: Demons and Vampyres

[Please note: There is some dialogue before this that concerns Demons. I have skipped past it for spacing reasons. Full dialogue can be found post quest in the Sanctum via using the Shard of Zaros on the memoriam reader]

Player: And vampyres?

Zaros: [Vampyre Form] I was initially less convinced by the vampyres, but being only the second race I encountered, I had little to compare them to. At first, they were nothing more than predatory beasts, but I applied what I had learned from the demons and gave them a society. As with any burgeoning society, there was bloodshed and civil war… but eventually an aristocracy rose up that persists to this day. Even vampyres have the potential for good or ill, but their thirst is ever present and often overcomes their will.

Player: But why choose these races?

Zaros: I was not aware I was making a choice – these were just the first races I encountered. These races originate from the lower planes – these being the earliest creations of the elder gods, and which are nearest to Freneskae. I would have gladly accepted all mortal species under my banner, but by the time I’d reached the higher planes, those races had adopted the doctrines of other gods.

Jerrod Dialogue from Dishonour Among Thieves

<><>
[The following dialogue takes place in Zamorak's hideout before the heist.]

Jerrod: You want something?

Topic: Lycanthropy.

Player: What can you tell me about lycanthropy?

Jerrod: Lycanthropy, huh? You and your long words.

Jerrod: I don’t know what you’ve read, but we can transform at will. Hard to control sometimes, though.

Jerrod: Some of us believe it’s a gift. Others believe we’ve been cursed. I see it as a tool.

Jerrod: I can inflict pain whenever I deem necessary, and to whom. Handelmort will learn that lesson soon.

Topic: The Stone of Jas.

Player: Do you know what the Stone of Jas is?

Jerrod: I’ve been listening – my ears are sharp. Far as I can tell, it’s some kind of weapon people are willing to kill for.

Jerrod: That’s all the information I need.

Topic: Morytania.

Player: Are you from Morytania like the other werewolves?

Jerrod: Mm, Canifis is my home. I know the swamps like the back of my own paw.

Jerrod: Not many of my kind know how to cross the holy barrier at the River Salve, I’m an exception.

Player: Why did you leave Morytania?

Jerrod: Orders. My insolent nephew fled using the paths I taught him. I raised that mongrel, so I was sent to get him back.

Jerrod: It’s been quite a journey. Lot of blood on my hands.

Player: You don’t show much remorse.

Jerrod: Why would I? I live for violence.

Topic: Zamorak.

Player: Why do you support Zamorak?

Jerrod: Us werewolves are blooded when we come of age. That means we drink the blood of an innocent. It’s a rite of passage.

Jerrod: Doing so means we swear fealty to Zamorak. It binds us to him. Our duty is to serve.

Jerrod: I’ve done so without question or hesitation. Chaos? That’s a concept I can get behind.

The Lord of Vamp**ium

<>
A Taste of Hope

Foreword

A Taste of Hope
by Lord Lowerniel
Vergidiyad Drakan

The House of Drakan's roots were formed from Vamp**ium's tribal system, as is true for all of the great houses. In those days of old, blood was nothing more than sustenance to keep us alive. You were either predator or prey, and the tribal leaders either ruled by strength or they did not rule for long.

Each of the tribes had their own hunting grounds and preferences, and many tribal wars erupted over territory. Though we were a naturally resilient species, average life expectancy was short due to the savagery of our world at that time.

The arrival of Lord Zaros brought an end to the tribal system, with him forming them into the early houses of Vamp**ium. He introduced to us alien cultural concepts such as society and art. The more we followed his tutelage, the more refined our tastes became, and blood started to become about more than just a means to live. As vamp**ic life expectancy was prolonged, so too did our palates become refined, tasting in the blood the essence of a being. Cannibalistic haematophagy was outlawed, and weakened predators became servants, their wings clipped, and their place set on the ground, while the burgeoning nobility rose up both figuratively and literally with the building of many great towers and castles. Blood was no longer just food, but access to blood became a sign of wealth.

As the head of the newly formed House Drakan, I drank in Lord Zaros's lessons more eagerly than my peers. Before the concept of laws were passed on to our newborn aristocracy, I seized an opportunity to co-opt my neighbouring houses...by draining their leaders of blood. These smaller houses fell under my leadership, and the House of Drakan became the prevailing power on Vamp**ium. As the wealthiest living vampyre, I tasted many different bloods, refining my palate further still, discovering that food from each of House Drakan's territories held subtle differences in taste.

House Alzep*

The ruler of Alzeph was a contemptible vyre. Those they ate tended to be vyres from other tribes, and the other tribes loathed the Alzeph. Such blood is thankfully rare since the birth of the new aristocracy and the Alzeph now being wiped out. I had the displeasure of tasting some blood from their stores, which was disgustingly spicy and held a grainy texture. It is quite difficult to find humans that don't hold some form of contempt for vampyres, but thankfully it requires an intense level of disgust before the taste of the blood is affected.

House Drakan

My favoured blood was always that of my homelands - blood tinged with a taste of optimism and hope. I have trained my venators to be silent stalkers of their prey. When unable to take their prey unawares, they would allow it to escape and feel safe again before bringing it down. If the animal does not feel threatened before death, instead feeling freedom, then the tinge of hopefulness within its blood retains a sweetness beyond measure.

House Ghrazi

The Ghrazi were the most vicious of all vampyre tribes, priding themselves on their ability to fight rather than stalk. They would not capture their prey so much as bait it, goad it into combat. They would only hunt the most fearsome and territorial beasts of Vamp**ium, not the myriad of docile creatures. They believed they were ingesting the strength of all they ate. Personally, I found the aggression within the blood of such creatures to be foul - swill for an unrefined palate, not fitting for a cultured society. The tribe took to our burgeoning society poorly, with the vast majority being clipped and effectively used as pack animals for our hunts. If not for their ferocity in battle, I'd have had them all put down.

House Jovkai

Lord Jovkai was the longest ruling tribal leader in the pre-Zarosian age, and the oldest recorded living vyre. He was a beloved leader, and this love was transposed on to their prey. They would treat their food with care and tenderness, allowing it to live among them feeling safe and cared for...before mercilessly slaughtering it behind closed doors. I was pleasantly surprised by the bloods from this region, a bittersweet taste with a lingering finish.

House Myrmel

The Myrmel tribe would stalk entire families or social groups, quickly striking down one of their number, yet not feeding from that first kill. Instead, they would hunt down the remaining family members as the cries of their wounded rang in their ears. Their adrenal response of fight or flight, coupled with intense regret that they were leaving a loved one behind, imbued their blood with an effervescent fizz, making it lighter and more aromatic. The process of collecting such blood, however, was very wasteful. When the Myrmel were absorbed into House Drakan, I decreed that the process only be used for special celebrations, with the primary victim's blood used to feed the lower-born vyres.

House Pyrah

The Pyrah were a loathsome tribe of carrion-eaters, and their ways had no place in a modern vamp**ic society. They would capture whole families of creatures at a time, keeping them in appalling conditions until death took the weakest of them. Any survivors would be mournful of such losses, their grief heightened by being left with the corpses of their families in tight confines. Once entire families had died off, the Pyrah would harvest their congealed blood for later consumption. The Pyrah had vast stores of this solidified blood and I'll admit that, out of curiosity, I did sample it. The smell was foul, the texture was greasy and the thought of ingesting it sickened me. The taste, however, was surprisingly complex and rich. Nevertheless, the practice was abhorrent, and thus I had the entire blood stores of the Pyrah destroyed, and the tribe alongside it.

House Shadum

Ah, the Shadum. Their main source of food was from a race of creatures they had enslaved, a subjugation these creatures had willingly entered into, submitting to another so they would not have to make choices on their own. Perhaps they hed a symbiotic need to attach themselves to our kind for survival. Regardless, the Shadum were sadistic in their dealings with these beings, breeding them as both subservients and food. The blood of these creatures held a quality both salty and sweet - an intriguing combination, though not to my ideal tastes.

House Vitur

The Vitur were in thrall to their long-dead founder, whom they considered a 'god'. He was a figure of awe and wonder to the Vitur, and there were volumes of histories dedicated to him. Indeed, he was not only worshipped by his vyres, but a number of sapient races sacrificed themselves willingly out of respect for him and House Vitur's opulent culture. These creatures are now scarce on Vamp**ium, but I was able to obtain a store of their blood. It holds an incredibly fresh and pure taste - pleasant, if a little bland

Other Lord of Vamp**ium stuff

=====
A random book from a bookshelf in Castle Drakan .

You can find this and other bits of lore by searching any bookcase you come across that can't be destroyed during the chase scenes. I'll expand this section as I come across more
.

^+^

You pick a book at random...

A land writ, signed by Drakan. It seems that Drakan and Sliske reached an agreement that the Barrows could be used by the *'ahjarrat. There is no mention of what Drakan got in return.

'The Leech-wyrm Winter' It recounts a dry winter in Vampyrium when leech-wyrms moved from the rivers and into the tribelands. Sounds like a pretty grim time to be a vampyre.

'The Stranger From Afar' An account of the Empty Lord, by Perjour.

'Breaking the Salve' A handwritten journal from a werewolf called Brax. It talks about weak points in the Salve, where the magic dilutes. There are some scratched notes from another pen in the margins.

'Notes from The Black Prince: The Memoirs of Prince Tenebra Remanis' Whole sections have been removed from the beginning.

'Bloodreign: The Art of Torture' A list of dos and don'ts for vampyres who want to torture other vampyres. Apparently, vampyres have a fear of being impaled through the chest or head.

'The Great Genuflection' An annual event for vampyres to bend their knee and bay at House Drakan? Sounds like a great day out.

Post Quest Dialogue (TLoV)

King Roald

Player: How go your preparations?

King Roald: How indeed. Have troops been sent to Paterdomus yet, Aeonis**?

Aeonis*g Raispher: Not yet, my liege, but I assure you this is my highest priority.

King Roald: Well, hurry about it then, man!

Drezel and Ivan

Drezel: Ivan has told me all that transpired. I am sorry for your losses.
Ivan Strom: Have you spoken with King Roald?

Player: I have. He'll be sending an advance guard to Paterdomus soon.

Ivan Strom: He should have done more sooner. If he had, the Myreque - my friends - might still be alive.

Drezel: But what of the Edicts? He can't dare risk breaking them!

Player: He was of the mind that plenty of others have already broken them, and nothing catastrophic has come of it. Even if it does, Varrock is next. I don't know how long it will take, but Vanescula will be coming here with a vyre army. He can't ignore this threat any longer.

Drezel: He would risk us all just to save his city?

Ivan Strom: Not just Varrock - all of Misthalin might fall to the vyres. Where is the balance in that? If King Roald does not risk breaking the Edicts, then the vyres will just do it anyway!

Drezel: Then we must work to stop this catastrophe from happening. It is a good thing you are returned, Ivan. We must work together to find a way to strengthen the blessing on the Salve

Sentinels Bloodmortis, Noctantine, and Plaguemans*

Player: Any news?

Sentinel: You really don't keep up with current affairs, do you? Lord Drakan himself came back to punish Vanstrom's killer, but ended up getting killed himself!

Player: I guess there's no reward then?

Sentinel: No, but Lady Vanescula is in charge now, and she apparently recovered a hidden cache of blood from somewhere. The nobles are eating well these days, and the vyrewatch are being more obedient.

Sentinel Plaguemans*: I heard rumours that Lord Drakan planned to return all the true-born vyres to Vampyrium, and also to get rid of us human-borns. Who is he to show up after all this time with such demands? Clearly he wasn't strong enough to impose his will on us. I'm glad that Lady Vanescula stood up and deposed him.

Kara-Meir

Kara-Meir: Hero.

Kara-Meir: Hang on a second, what IS that weapon you're carrying? The cruel-looking sword?

Player: You mean this spearhead? It's called Sunspear - a fabled vampyre-killing weapon, apparently.

Kara-Meir: I thought it looked familiar, but that's NOT Sunspear. I have Sunspear, and it's a dagger not a sword.

Player: I'm pretty sure you don't - I took this off Lord Drakan himself.

Kara-Meir: Yes, and I used my dagger to kill Prince Tenebra himself.

Player: Don't you think it a bit odd that yours is a dagger, yet it's called SunSPEAR? Mine WAS once part of an actual spear.

Kara-Meir: Yes, very odd. Perhaps my dagger was once part of a spear too?

Player: Maybe even the same spear, who knows?

Vanescula Drakan

Vanescula: You have a nerve coming back here.

Player: I have a nerve? You're the one who betrayed us! You murdered Safalaan!

Vanescula: You humans are so short-sighted. I did not betray you. You Myreque wanted a way to free your kind - this is it! Ever since the Salve barrier went up, this place has become as much a prison for my race as yours. Food is growing ever scarce for us too. If we cannot also escape, vampyres will become all but extinct.

Player: So stop turning humans into vyres!

Vanescula Drakan: And risk appearing weak to our enemies, who would no doubt take the opportunity to wipe us out? Or is it that you only wish for the humans of Morytania to be free, and not its vampyres too? Freeing us ALL from this accursed land is the only way! Safalaan understood this, why can you not?

Player: Did he understand it would mean his own death?

Vanescula: He made it abundantly clear to me that he was willing to die for his cause, for his beliefs.

Player: But at your own hand?

Vanescula: I did what was necessary for the survival of my kind, and I will continue to do so. What will you do?

Player: Everything I can to stop you!

Vanescula: So you do only care about your kind - how selfishly human of you.

I'm not sure yet.

Vanescula Drakan: We do not need to make enemies of one another.

Let vyres cross the Salve.

Vanescula Drakan: I doubt the humans of Misthalin would be so welcoming. There will be blood.

Send you back to Vampyrium.

Vanescula: That is not an option. Once I have the portal destroyed, there will be no way back.

Vanescula: Whatever you think of me, I hold no grudge against you.
