*drops beginning of Summer's End here*

(A - Player; S – Summer; M - Meranek Thanatos; E – Erik Bonde; J – Jallek Lenkin)

A: Summer, what are you doing here? What happe-
S: [Player], I don’t have time now! You must come with me right away!
A: Wait, what has happened? Why did the ground shake?
S: Not here. Please, come with me!
**A: Okay, I will come.
**A: No, I will just make things worse.
-
A: What’s this? What’s going on here?
M: Thank you for coming, [Player]. We understand that it must be awkward for you to come back after what we said last time.
A: Come back? Is this the farm? What happened?
E: Oh, no, we’re some place else now. It’s hard to explain but Jallek should be able to shed some light on the situation.

[...]

J: We don’t exactly know what the Beast is, but it’s been here for a lot longer than we have. As Erik mentioned, it feeds directly on souls which fuels the dark energies that keeps it…alive, I suppose. We suspect that before we arrived, it outright devoured every soul it came across. The veil between our worlds was still strong then… but that has started to change. Not soon after our arrival, we could feel the veil separating the Beast’s realm from yours growing weaker and weaker. It’s as if the Beast is trying to claw its way through.
A: But then there is even more reason to stop it! If it gets through, it will have all the people of RuneScape to feed upon!
M: Yes, we also thought of this… and it would no longer be in need of us…
J: Over the centuries, it seems to have made quite a bit of progress… but that is nothing compared to what has happened since Summer brought you over to try to help us.
M: It has broken free, [Player], and it’s more powerful than ever.
J: I assume you felt the ground shake?
A: Yes, there was a short earthquake right before Summer appeared at the Wilderness Wall again. What happened?

(continued)
Your blade... it did not cut deep enough.

J: It is breaking through the veil. With its new powers, it has started crashing through the realms. That actually explains where we are right now.
A: What do you mean?
J: This void… we’re actually inside the veil that separates our two realms. It has grown so weak that even we can enter it.
A: You’re saying that we’re in the Abyss? I don’t remember it being this… this bright.
J: No, this is not the Abyss. The Beast is not so patient that it’s trying to find an actual path to our world – it is creating its own. The Abyss is all around us, but the Beast is crashing its way straight through it, pushing everything aside – leaving nothing but this void.
E: As you probably understand, we must act now. It doesn’t matter how powerful it is, we must stop it. And… as you’ve dealt with it before and… and because you are partly responsible for how quickly this is all evolving, we were hoping that you would be willing to try to set things straight again.
A: You can’t blame me for this! Just asking me to help would’ve been perfectly fine.
E: I… I apologise.
A: So, what is it we must do? How can we defeat this thing?
M: As we mentioned last time we saw you, we have tried before, and failed. But we were hoping that, with your help, this time we might succeed. There is a cave just north of the farm – the first thing we need to do is lure it in there. Once inside, we can go along with our old plan on how to defeat it, but we will give you further instructions once we’ve got it where we want it.
E: We were thinking that maybe you could lure it like you did before? By gaining its attention with newly summoned souls.

(and then it continues on)
Your blade... it did not cut deep enough.

*drops the end of Spirit of Summer too*

A: I am so sorry, Summer. I had no idea I would only make things worse.
S: No, [Player], don’t listen to them. They should not accept the agony they’re in. You did better than ever could have.
A: I still feel bad, though. Is there anything I can do to make things better for you and your family?
S: Not right now, but I am sure we will need your bravery again. Here, take this ring. It once belonged to my mother, Jennica, but, since my death, it has gained a special connection with this realm. When I brought you with me, we passed through a portal connecting the realms. By operating this ring, you can use these portals without my help. It will only work where the connection is already very strong, though. While wearing it, you will also gain a closer connection to spirits in general, and you will find that the revenants who haunt these lands will be a bit more generous in what they leave behind.
A: Thank-
S: Oh no*
A: What is it, Summer? What is going on?
S: [Player], you must…

(White screen fade out)

Also, as a note: the whole white screen thing was how it ended back before Summer's End was released too
Your blade... it did not cut deep enough.

Thanks orange :D

So it seems something happened right at the end of Spirit of Summer, but it wasn't until a good amount of time before we come back in Summer's End, at least, according to how the dialogue sounds anyway.

That's how I interpret it at least.
You can only fully appreciate a story when you experience it through the eyes of one of its characters.

I was thinking about the same thing. If I would be more in the clan chat I could have helped... Sometimes I hate my busy RL.

I was more thinking about setting the quest release dates as real dates. Ergo this means any pre-TWW quests are by default 5th Age. This would mean our character is adventuring for 13 years (as long as RS exists).

I don't know how much implications it has on the "Should-be requirement" quests. I can already confirm Nomad's Requiem is developed before ROTM, as well is The Hunt for Red Raktuber before SITW. All Fired Up is developed before Defender of Varrock.

Also, should Abyss miniquest not technically be required for TTAS? In the cutscene of Zaros you see the Zamorakian mage in the Abyss.
Hopespear miniquest should be required for The Chosen Commander, as there the full history of the Battle of Plain of Mud gets explained.

Doesn't Summer's End start automatically after the completion of Spirit of Summer?
You never were our brightest star, Khazard. 'Vermin slaughtered like lambs'? What does that even mean?

This is the best thread in Lore Discussion. Nice work.

And no, I had Spirit of Summer completed for a while before going back to start Summer's End.
Patrolling Lore FC almost makes you wish for a Great Revision.
