Necromancy is cool and all but thematically, its very limited while Summoning had a good range of different creatures to summon.

There was another skill suggested on this forum called Breeding however that I would gladly accept as a replacement to Summoning.

Summoning had shit creatures to choose from and Necromancy is cooler and fits more with oldschool

Imo, shouldn't "breeding" be under the Farming skill?

You would think so.

I can't tell you how disappointed I was to find out Farming was just gardening back in the day.

I was like "Where's my cow field?"

as much as i enjoyed summoning in pre-eoc, overall it trivialize the game when it came to PVM. the beast of burden were capable of carrying much more supplies than without, meaning you could effectively double your trips or "cheese" bosses and quests by being able to do them at a much lower requirement if you had access to these BoB.

i would enjoy seeing combat familiars added to the game in some aspect though, weather that be a boss drop or minigame reward, having minotaurs and titans fighting beside you was a good feeling, it also added a different combat style and pvp build types.

While I agree with you on the Beasts of Burden and would 100% be cool with Summoning not having them, I'd just like to point out that the current very popular strategy of using alts is more OP than Summoning ever was.

Like, it wouldn't break the game anymore than it already is.

I like the idea of having followers that aren’t just cosmetic like current OSRS pets. It just depends on what they actually do. Summoning would introduce a ton of balancing issues if the followers were actually worth anything, hence why the upcoming necromancy stuff is cute but really doesn’t seem all that powerful.
I think non combat followers would be cool. I liked the idea of the beasts of burden but people freak out when you mention them for OSRS. I think even if you couldn’t store food or supplies it’d be cool to have them to just store loot. Most people don’t even pick up Drake or Wyrm bones for instance because banking is too tedious.
To those who think this would make the game easier; no, it’d make it less tedious. Difficult content and tedious content are two different things. You can’t change my mind on this.
But anyway, yeah Summoning will never come to OSRS. But we can cross our fingers for utility followers through other means.
