A while ago, I was talking with some people about adding in a barrows defender (makes sense seeing as how their is barrows gloves). To get a chance at this, I considered maybe getting a rare key from barrows that would allow you access to the cyclops that drop the defender for a certain amount of time. Another option would be needing the key and tokens to gain access, and when you run out of tokens, you would also need to get a new key to try again. This key would be untradeable and would make barrows a more frequently visited boss/minigame for the community while allowing for an equipment upgrade. One other idea I had thought of with barrows was having a rare chance of getting an item from the chest that would prevent 1 barrows item from degrading, and having up to 4 of these "items" at a time. As you get one of these items, they would be come more rare (similar to ecumenical keys). Once this item was added to a barrows piece, the barrows piece became untradeable. Along with this, if you wished to remove the item from the barrows piece, either the barrows item or the non-degrading add on became consumed, allowing for a money sink on the barrows items.
The questions could be:
1. Should the barrows chest have a rare/very rare chance at giving a key, which would give a limited time access to certain cyclops that can drop a barrows defender? This defender would have slightly better attack bonuses than that of a dragon defender. The key will also be an untradeable item.
2. Should the barrows chest have a rare/very rare chance of dropping an "item" that would work as an add on to any barrows piece you choose? Using this item on a barrows piece would prevent it from degrading; however, this add on would be an untradeable item that, when removed from a barrows piece, would consume the barrows item. You may only have 4 of these "add on items" at a time, and become more rare as you get more from barrows, similar to ecumenical keys.
