I firmly believe that jagex does a great job of keeping players, but a terrible job of bringing in new players. The only meaningful content that's ever released is for mid- end game players., and any current early game content is either not interesting or stagnated.
The problem is that it feels like jagex just completely forgot about early game. The gear between level 40 - 60 is unbalanced. Dragon 2h, for example, is possibly the worst weapon in the game (it really wouldnt hurt to buff its slash attack bonus, and even buff dharoks great axe attack bonuses, for balancing reasons). Its special is horrendous. Why are useless specials still a thing? Why are leaf bladed axe base stats superior to dragon 2h? I understand not all weapons are designed for pvp / pvm, but why make things that are bad at both things? Are these items even tested before release?
This brings me to the main point of my post. If we want to see a bigger player base, the jagex needs to be more mindful of what they put out(release more items!, test them, etc.*looking at dragon 2h spec*). End game content is great for the hard core gamers, but not everyone is a hard core gamer. This is why early game content is crucial. Early game content is what attracts new gamers because its what tells them if theyre going to commit to a game or not. If there are more options for people to play with in the 40-60 stats range, end game pvm wont be negatively impacted and a ripple effect happens. You will see old players come back because they wanna try these new weapons, and pvp gets new life in the form of different builds optimized for new gear. This means casual gamers can enjoy the game with out investing to much time and actually want to come back.
I dont know about other people, but im sick of seeing the same 2-4 builds per bracket. Its also lame that you cant really fight any worth while bosses early to mid game.
If I had more room I would bring up possible risk/mitigations for said risks.
