Youtuber Killamike86 scammed me for around 1.3m..

Do not fall for this. The Video will say some rehashed line about a giveaway where you must follow the link in the description that takes you to a RuneScape look alike site to "Sign Up". When you input your details they will hijack your account.

I can't believe I fell for this on a facebook page. *sighs* I think this is the first time my curiosity got the better of me and I decided to look. Which when I logged back into the game, I found myself with just 1 gp. Would changing my pass ASAP help prevent anything further? (That's what I did.)

WOW!
Great post :] Glad to see someone who has a kind heart. Helping players to avoid getting taken advantage of. It's sad that some people try to ruin the fun of others just to get a little extra cash in their own pockets. Ruins the experience of the game for that person. I liked how you added scenarios, and what to do if it happens to you. Very thoughtful.

Another way to help avoid falling for phishing pages is with the firefox add-on "flagfox", which shows a flag icon in the right side of your url bar of the country a site's server is located in.
For example Jagex's servers are in the UK & right now Flagfox is showing a little Union Jack icon in my url bar. If I went to a page that looked like a runescape page but the icon was of a different flag (a US flag for example) then boom, I can see right off that it's a fake page.

Also make sure to check the full domain name of a page. The real RS site is simply c0m with no extra suffix after, but fake sites my have de or cm as a suffix in the domain name. That extra two letters after c0m is a suffix for the country the site is coming from; de is Germany (de = Deutchland), and cm is Camaroon (Which seems to be where the latest batch of phishing is coming from).
That's obviously not the real RS site once you realize what the domain name is telling you, but phishers are counting on ppl not knowing or not paying attention. Even uk as a suffix is fake, as I said, the real site is just c0m, no suffix.

The prefix is also another part of the url to watch. Phishing pages may try to trick you by "faking" the url prefix. For example they want you to think the phishy page's url is secure.runescape but it will actually be secure-runescape and they catch many unwary ppl that way.

If someone says they want you to post in their thread, don't follow any links to it, ask them to give you the QFC code instead, that way you can be sure you're on the real RS site.
If they refuse or insist you click a link, you can bet they're a scammer.

IME legit ppl will usually just tell you to search for the QFC or title of their thread, to start with. It's shorter than a link, and of course not censored in chat as a web link would be.

Thanks, check those url's & stay safe!

**obviously c0m is standing in for *** , which gets filtered. A testimony in itself to how prevalent phishy links are.
What we obtain too easily, we esteem too lightly, it's dearness only that gives everything it's value.
