I would like to submit the Temple of Ikov scam as an addition to the main post(s).

What happens:

You are told that you will be given a large amount of gp for whatever reason (clan event, youtube video). They will take you to Camelot and ask you to bring your most valuable items and your entire cash stack.

Once in Camelot they will ask you to follow them to the Temple of Ikov. You will both enter and walk to the stairs where you get the boots of lightness.

You will be traded a tinderbox and a candle. You will be asked to light the candle. After you have done so, they will ask for the tinderbox back, likely because they "forgot" to light their candle.

You will be asked to go down the stairs. They will take you to the back wall and ask you to drop your items then go upstairs and trade them your extinguished candle for the GP they are offering.

The problem is that once you have given away your candle, you cannot get back to your items.

In one case, I was referred to a video of someone scamming a scammer. The plot was that I was going to join a guild of people who wanted to destroy lurers. They 'found' someone who wanted to scam people with this above Candle Scam. They showed you a video of someone dropping their items just before the stairs that lead back up to the temple of ikov, instead of at the back wall.
The issue with this is that no matter what, if you do not have a candle, you cannot see items on the floor if you go down those stairs.

Please share/edit for comprehension/add to the main post.

Hello OS community! Thanks a lot for submitting your experience with the baddies.
Especially Ice Crush for gathering all these informations!

This knowledge probably has and will help many players. And it even apply outside Runescape or any other game/community.

Its been more than 10 years now since I started playing this game (Total fan player here.) and I always thought that i've seen it all. But nearly every game session I can notice one player abusing in many new ways. I am willing to share a few quick ones with everyone that can be quite dangerous.

I will detail it quite a lot since I really like to share experience write help guides.

Today in the World 1 server: Someone was spamming for a giveaway and asked player to search a keyword on Youtube. Most player would not think hes doing something wrong like I did in the first time. I've decided to take a look at the video, analysing the content and maybe try my luck.. So basically the video was pretty short only showing a very rich player minding his own business. Over the video there was a text asking you to write why would you win X amount of cash, your ingame name on his Runescape forum post . Right there everything seemed pretty fine but everything that look too good to be true (like Ice Crush said on early post) is alway suspicious when it involve information and money.

The video was asking the viewer to click the link in the description (basically the worst thing to do) this link looked highly similar to the current one you can see at the top of your screen. So I clicked the link (I opened a real Runescape forum thread first in another tab to verify the link.) This is where it get worse... The link bring you to an nearly same login page , maybe a single little graphical thing was outdated but you mostly don't notice it. Since I was already logged in to the forum with my email remembered, I should have seen that email on this new login page...

Part two right below.

Part two.

As a second test on the ''probably fake'' login windows. I tried to click the ''new account'' and ''recover lost Pass-info'' Obviously they didn't had any page linked, they were fake. A third test I used.(On Chrome browser) Using the little blank page at the left of the link you can right click it you can see the website's cookies on your computer. The phishing website didn't had any matching cookies with the real Runescape website. This take 2 second to verify. So this is how I noticed it was a complete phishing scam.

I know there is plenty other way to verify that the page is genuine vs another one such as the little ''lock'' for the Explorer users. I hope that you will define my way to investigate this kind of scam ''easy or quick'' and that it will help at least someone in the community.

*The website have been reported to Jagex and the video to Youtube respectively.

More quick scam that I no longer see in the game but might happen somewhere.

-Player thats tell you to give them something or else they will ban, hack , bypass PvP in some way even try to convince to ''Report'' you if you don't do what they say.
This will probably target younger player most of the time.

Err, guess what? I forgot the rest while typing the whole ''not a masterpiece at all''

To conclude my post, I am suggesting that you could update (rewrite and replace by dealing with a mod) your post (If cannot edit) with some of the new experience players provided. (Yes I've been trough the 36 pages to read em all.) But most important adding a few tips against phishing websites, junk e-mails and any sort of outgame scam, how to deal with and what actions you can take against it.

For the player unaware of this The main Runescape website offer a quick guide on phishing website and what you can do.

Thanks for reading till the end. Most important : Have a safe and fun game session!

If you are unsure of a scam, simply ask ingame. It would be my pleasure to help sort things out.

Haha the scams... yes... I have fallen victim to some of these trading scams but after all that time of paying attention I had a keen eye out like when people trade you and then you put your items in and they put their money in and take it back out and then click accept... ah... thats the scam I would usually fall for but not anymore. I hope you all are staying safe out there in runescape and aren't getting scammed yourself!!

Some guy probably thinks I scammed him but I didn't. He traded me something to fletch for him, and a random event took me away and when I got back from it he was gone and not showing as online. I waited a long time but he never came back to where he traded me.

Random events probably make a lot of people think they were scammed when really it was just a random event, not the person teleporting away on their own, and if they waited the person would be back with their items.
Hi.
