..."and a second argument that I did not include in the OP would be that the game is advertised as a P2P game, and no other successful monthly pay to play game has microtransactions alongside the monthly fee. The only games that can sensibly implement microtransactions are free-to-play games because they have no other way of making money;..."

Are you kidding me? Lol! Is Runescape the only game you've ever played?

@Rianaa: it's almost as if you didn't read the post over you.

@Tre288: WoW has also recently introduced microtransactions to their P2P game, and they are being heavily criticized for it. Any other game that I know of with microtransactions has only a one-time fee or are F2P (e.g Guild Wars 2, LoL, TF2, etc.)

wtf! Cosmetic advantage? Even in real life that is just plain stupid. Do you ever go buy clothes in real life? Game or not. Cosmetic is Cosmetic. Not combat, Not gathering, Not a boost in any form.

You can't even use cosmetic in pvp areas.

Jezz, so you are the type who hates a "variety" of options.

Rants are composed in many forms, which includes Flaming, "demands" not "suggestion", Rage, and many other stuff. But the best ones I know are not precisely Rants, they are Negotiations. Look to it and read your own statement as if it were pointed towards you, would you like ppl to CAPS at you, "Demand" you do do what you don't want to do?

Oh please Bromato...

I'll direct you to the "City of X" games,an mmo with a monthly fee with OPTIONS to also purchase completely cosmetic pieces for costumes and the like.

The Secret World, Which also has membership fees as well as an in game cash shop.

WoW, as you say... there are truly many, many more.

If I'm not mistaken, some of those games you name are games that actually infact DO provide Game boosting advantages in cash shops, essentially making the game Pay to win**** is nothing like what you are trying to complain about in those terms.

Many games do it, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, the company needs to continuously make money through any means in order to keep the game up, and in order to keep the game maintained by staff.

Complainy people like you are on every game, and will always have a problem the minute OPTIONAL purchaseable content arises, because they are.. like I said, either greedy, and immature, and do not want to spend anything on contend you DO NOT NEED because they feel it should be given to them, Or they are just ignorant and believe that the company just wants money, and instead of focusing on getting work done on content they feel is more important (despite whether it actually is or not) they for some reason believe that the entirety of the team has been taken away from producing actual game content, in order to "rip you off"

OPTIONAL COSMETIC CONTENT is what this is. If you honestly consider the pets even remotely an advantage whatsoever, you are just actually looking for something to complain about. It is honestly more efficient to do everything yourself rather than wait for these pets to get anything done for you. So that renders your aguement essentially invalid.

"If everyone who bought runecoins was forced into their own worlds, then that might be fine."

Premier worlds? I really like this idea. Maybe it could act like the divide we have between members and non-members?

Raises some other questions though:

1. Presumably, those of us who liked MTs, would be able to pay for in-game advantages, providing those advantages were restricted to premier worlds?

2. Perhaps not all the updates, that MTs paid for, would be rolled out to ordinary worlds? Might we have premier-world-only skills & quests? Is it fair that some of us are paying for the updates that ordinary members are going to enjoy - especially when they complain about us doing it?

3. Perhaps we could also have our own forums & hi-scores as well? Is there any point in ordinary members discussing issues that don't effect them and there might be additional skills for premier players?

@Nova Thunder: In real life people buy and match clothes that they think will make them look better, thus providing them with an advantage. Would you rather hire someone who came to your interview with shorts and a tie-dye t-shirt, or someone dressed formally?

Also, PvP isn't the only thing that matters in the game. The fact that people are buying runecoins means that people do care about how they look in the game.

@Tre288: I haven't heard of any of those games, but if what you say is true, then my point about P2P games not having microtrans would be moot. I guess Jagex is just following the path of other greedy companies. The rest of my points still stand though.

@Edward March: I like your ideas. It would be nice if the microtransactioners were separated from the normal players.

@MELANS0N: The Holocaust never hurt you, stop being so butthurt about it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Or.. you know Jagex is going the way of just ANY company, and needs money and income in order to continue proving everyone with the game, with updates, with maintenance, etc.

There's nothing greedy about offering optional cosmetic content in order to raise more funds for the entirety of the game.
