EDIT: @Galahad Sir
I don't think Jagex explicitly intended to sell xp and coins and other items via their SoF spin tickets. Technically, what you are saying is true, they are selling in-game items for real world money.
But doesn't the SoF randomly select an item? People can't "choose" to buy the item they win on the SoF. Realistically, I can't imagine any realistic and reasonable person spending hundreds of £$€ to level up and advance in the game in this way.
If anything it would be incredibly slow.
EDIT2: @Galahad Sir
"Do you understand now? No one is complaining that we're being forced to buy spins. We're complaining that rich people *can* buy spins and buy their way ahead without having to put the effort in, that rich people *can* buy items that are not available any other way, when for 10 years Jagex promised us this would never happen. This is one of the main reasons we chose Runescape over other games, and now it's been made into a lie."
Well could the same not be said for people buying membership? Not everyone *can* buy membership. Yet members have access the hundreds of additional ways to enhance their gameplay, and advance faster than those who play the free game.

Damn, I miss the good ol' days of rs were all you had to pay for was a MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP TO ACCESS ALL OF THE CONTENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When nothing was held back from the MEMBERS!!!!!!!!!!!! I think that rs has left its players in the dust and is now only thinking of what they can do next to suck the money out of their players wallets... to be honest its quite sad Jagex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think of ways to keep your original players because i'm betting their are not many of us left after the beta comes out...... -.- R.I.P. to RuneSacpe and say hello to RuneCraft.....

The reason people bought spins 450 at a time was precisely that - to level up, especially the slowest and most boring skills, especially runecrafting - which is probably why sales have slowed since runespan came out and they've had to offer something new every week to get more sales.
And sure, you can't say "I'll buy one spin and get a lucky divine please", but when you buy 450 spins, you know for certain you'll get some xp, and some items worth gp. It might not be exactly the same amount every 450 spins you buy, but it will be pretty close.
Also I don't think Jagex are as stupid as you make them out to be, I'm pretty sure they were counting on us buying xp coins and other items via SoF spin tickets. But even if they were that naive, it's been pointed out many many times that that's what's happening, they've had ample opportunity to rectify it if that's not what they intended, but instead all we've gotten is Mark Liehard saying "Herp Derp all your worries are simply not true! 90% of you love it!"

Jagex, please believe me when I say I'm usually one of the first people to come to your defense about new updates. But with the squeal and solomon's general store, you are completely changing the way the community interacts on Runescape, something I really thought your company held dear to you. Now, when I log in, it's easy to see who has the "social status" in real life to be able to afford hundreds of spins on the squeal to get that new outfit or hundreds of runecoins for the coolest emote. Bottom line: I don't want to be part of a "community" that stands idle and silent in magical changing rooms, feeding money to a company in order to advance through the game.
Furthermore, it seems that the majority of disapproval for this has been coming from veterans to this game, and for good reason. We've experienced Runescape at it's best and truly value the community that's formed. Maybe it was unintentional, but you gave a clear message to your veterans by releasing solomon's general store the same day as the 10 year veteran cape:
"We sincerely thank you for your time, effort and dedication to this game. Look how far we've come. But please, stand aside for the new players."
I'm sorry for the harsh words and best regards,

"Well could the same not be said for people buying membership? Not everyone *can* buy membership. Yet members have access the hundreds of additional ways to enhance their gameplay, and advance faster than those who play the free game."
There are two reasons this is not the same:
1. Members can never, ever, ever, use a single benefit from membership against a player who has always been free to play. People who buy SoF spins can make use of their bought xp and gp and lucky divines against people who haven't paid for spins whenever they feel like it. The exception was agility run energy, but that was a bug that eventually got corrected. I suppose members can train f2p skills faster than f2p people can, but it's not nearly as big a difference as just buying your xp through the wheel, and there are no items that members can use in f2p worlds but f2p people can't.
2. Jagex did not spend 10 years telling everyone "We promise we will never, ever introduce a membership fee, everything will always be available to free players." We knew from the start there was membership, and that members could access additional things in member worlds (but not in free worlds).
If Jagex want to make their new game Transformers Universe based on microtransactions from the start, then fair enough, as long as they're up front about it, we can make our own decision if we want to play a game and dedicate years to it when rich people can buy their way to success. (Personally I think this game will be as successful as 8Realms and Stellar Dawn with that model, but if people want to play TU, good luck to them).
But 10 years of promises turned into lies is just disgusting.

*sigh* whatever. I never spend real money to get gamecash anyways. I'm not going to rage or whine about it, but the whole gamecash to buy unique items is pretty gimmicky if you ask me. I guess we'll just have to see how this plays out :/

Nobody's forcing anyone to buy any of this stuff, it's pretty reasonable that everyone gets 200 runecoins to start with. but creating an in-game way to earn runecoins would be great. for eg. cutting 1k yew logs = 200 rune coins, or something. even a minigame or anything like that

Again several good points you make on this, but I do disagree.
As I questioned in a previous post, "I can't imagine any realistic and reasonable person spending hundreds of £$€ to level up and advance in the game in this way."
Of course there will always be those in the minority who will really go to town on buying spins for the purpose of getting exclusive items, XP and coins, and if they want to do that, fine. It's those who have questionable perspectives on how they play they game.
But these are people who simply are not "realistic and reasonable" (in my opinion). After all this is a game, and from my perspective they are simply going too far.
The majority of people, however, I highly doubt would do anything on such a large as buying 450spins a time.
