My overall opinion on this is - I like this update, contrary to what most people think of it.
I'm not overtly keen on 'cash-for-in-game-items' and hope that Jagex do not go down the route of being able to buy your way ahead in the game.
As for cosmetic items, I'm fairly content, since these are not tradeable, and hardly effect the way the game works or the economy.
I really don't understand the basis people as to why people are complaining? If you don't want to pay for spins or RuneCoins, then don't? If you don't want to use Solomon's store or the Squeal of Fortune, then don't? I wonder how many of you who complain claimed the free 200 RuneCoins and actively use the daily spins on the SoF?
These are not being shoved down our throat, it's just an additional extra for those who want it.
Looking at this from a business perspective, why not expand to sell other items, apart from just the main source -membership, a good move, to ensure longevity.
At least there is one item for those who feel strongly about this, The Revolutionary hat and mask.
On another note, Jagex can't please everybody. The Evo of Combat might look rather confusing and intimidating on first appearance for those who are used to the current gameplay (I'm in this crowd), but this has been in the pipeline for months if not years. I remember reading a hint of such an update from a JMod on the forums a while back.
What I'm trying to put forward is that Jagex DO listen to what players want. But it's not always going to be in line with players' expectations, and that's the fun of having a game update. We expect some things, and they deliver. Other things get you talking.
Over the years there have only been a handful of integral things that have significantly changed the game, and hey-ho if they didn't work they were essentially reversed (Wilderness, Free Trade). Time for a new one. Whether we like these new updates or not, we aren't bound to use them.
If anything, 100% support for Jagex on this one.

Why is this separate from the membership I already pay??? I refuse to purchase RUINrunescape coins or rob my wallet extra spins. I am extremely disappointed in the people that decided to make this decision. You can keep your crap, can't trade it and it doesn't fit in my bank or my house that hasn't had a construction update from Jagex in forever. As far as I am concerned all the things you are offering have already been paid for in our membership dues. It is like you are robbing from your players....you are taking the fun out of the game and putting it in your wallet. Very lame. I'm Boycotting this.

straight to the points.
i enjoy my 2 squeal spins a day and enjoy even more getting the occasional one from monster drop or skilling.
i hate this combat beta, most of my friends who play, WoW applaud runescape for its simplicity and solid combat system, and the simplicity of it is why i fell in love with this game in the first place.
now, this solomon garbage is the most needless update in months, because all this is is a members loyalty shop that you rwt in. simplistically put. garbage. stop BEATING AROUND THE BUSH AND JUST PUT MEMBERSHIP PRICES UP A LITTLE ALREADY, IF YOU NEED MORE REVENUE YOU EXPLORE ALL YOUR CURRENT REVENUE STREAMS FOR EFFICIENCY, BEFORE YOU DECIDE ON STARTING NEW ONES.

I'm not completely against this, just create a way to get RuneCoin in game like you did with SoF tickets.
And like someone else said on this topic, some emotes should have a minimum skill requirement.
Also, when are you going to add new drops to the bosses? There is hardly anything worthwhile to do in your game except buy things. You should focus on creating new and exciting drops. It was a missed opportunity with these outfits.

If this was tied into the loyalty programme some how with already paying customers being given coins each month, then this update to me would be worth using. As it is, its just another way of making money without the support of loyal customers that have been with you for years.

Jagex can't act retrospectively and reward players based upon their loyalty to the game, if anything that would virtually unsettle the entire population of players.
An illustration, similar to why they can't give people Spins based on quests they already completed, prior to that update.
As for membership and why we can't get RuneCoins with past membership, the same thing, and similar to that of loyalty points.
They've announced a new bundle when you buy membership. (News 17/07/2012)
I don't see how Jagex are money grabbing. They haven't got hold of your wallet and frantically shaking it for every penny. We are not obliged to buy these cosmetic items.
Could the same thing not be said for having a Jagex shop? T-shirts, mugs, posters, etc?

"I really don't understand the basis people as to why people are complaining?"
Perhaps I can enlighten you.
It's not a solution for me personally to not buy spins or not buy runecoins. That doesn't make the game magically fair again.
The fact is that these updates allow people with money to unfairly buy their xp and gp from SoF, and to unfairly have access to items that people who can only afford membership are denied access to.
Even Jagex believed this was wrong for ten years:
"We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. We feel your status in real-life shouldn't affect your ability to be successful in RuneScape."
They didn't change their minds suddenly because they thought that rule had instantly become morally wrong. They only did it because their investors forced them to abandon their principles in pursuit of a quick dollar.
Do you understand now? No one is complaining that we're being forced to buy spins. We're complaining that rich people *can* buy spins and buy their way ahead without having to put the effort in, that rich people *can* buy items that are not available any other way, when for 10 years Jagex promised us this would never happen. This is one of the main reasons we chose Runescape over other games, and now it's been made into a lie.
That is why people are complaining. I hope this helps you to understand.
