My overall opinion on this is - I like this update, contrary to what most people think of it.
I'm not overtly keen on 'cash-for-in-game-items' and hope that Jagex do not go down the route of being able to buy your way ahead in the game.
As for cosmetic items, I'm fairly content, since these are not tradeable, and hardly effect the way the game works or the economy.
I really don't understand the basis people as to why people are complaining? If you don't want to pay for spins or RuneCoins, then don't? If you don't want to use Solomon's store or the Squeal of Fortune, then don't? I wonder how many of you who complain claimed the free 200 RuneCoins and actively use the daily spins on the SoF?
These are not being shoved down our throat, it's just an additional extra for those who want it.
Looking at this from a business perspective, why not expand to sell other items, apart from just the main source -membership, a good move, to ensure longevity.
At least there is one item for those who feel strongly about this, The Revolutionary hat and mask.
On another note, Jagex can't please everybody. The Evo of Combat might look rather confusing and intimidating on first appearance for those who are used to the current gameplay (I'm in this crowd), but this has been in the pipeline for months if not years. I remember reading a hint of such an update from a JMod on the forums a while back.
What I'm trying to put forward is that Jagex DO listen to what players want. But it's not always going to be in line with players' expectations, and that's the fun of having a game update. We expect some things, and they deliver. Other things get you talking.
Over the years there have only been a handful of integral things that have significantly changed the game, and hey-ho if they didn't work they were essentially reversed (Wilderness, Free Trade). Time for a new one. Whether we like these new updates or not, we aren't bound to use them.
If anything, 100% support for Jagex on this one.
