Honestly at first I was upset but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense:
1. It's for new players, so you can be grandfathered in.
2. It helps keep OSRS and RS3 membership together. I'd much rather be able to play both games for 1 membership price than having to pay both.
3. For bonds it will increase their gp price in game as well, maybe not equal ratio of gp:irl money but it'll at least cost more a little.
4. Inflation.

I like this game, but not that much. Not going to resubscribe in the future after my current sub runs out. I can only play this game in sessions, due to the nature of my work.

Sorry son, that you don't seem to grasp how the real world works (or that it's not 2007 any more and 2007 prices couldn't be maintained for everyone).

Prices go up, on pretty much everything, and sometimes they go up more than once (Guthix forbid!).

And just a quick "fyi", no, you aren't MY son (nor am *I* YOUR sweetheart). In context the word was used to make this point (and not to imply that you ARE my son). =) [/quote]

............

according to stats found online, jagex employees in various departments make an average between 17k pounds and 28k pounds with the high's being around 39k pounds.

if you take 320 employees times 50k usd a year salary--you get 16m usd per year. if phil waved his magic wand and gained 100 more employees--that would be 5m usd per year. making the total 420 employees at 21m usd per year.

75% of the employees having 4 years or less experience. if the us average is used at 75k usd per year that equals 24m and 7.5m equalling 31.5 m usd. 31.5m per year if the magic wand is waved.

"a large number of employees have been added" this is the basis for the hike. are they permanent or are they temporary--just until mobile launch? the increase for 100 employees is between 5m and 7.5m usd per year. this cannot be absorbed by a 75m profit?

many if not most players in this game make less than 50k usd per year, certainly less than 75k usd per year. some make the same or even less per year then they did 15 years ago.

overhead and servers were not cited as reasons for the hike. content and employees were cited.

in the real world how is an increase of 7.5m usd warranted for a"large number of employees", especially if they are temps, when the company shows a profit of 75m?

That's like half a statement. You're asking a question without offering all available information that might very well help you understand it.

You say jagex "shows a profit of 75m" yet ignore the fact that jagex is FULLY OWNED by Fukong Interactive. The 'parent company' of jagex lost a significant amount in stock value quite recently and that would seem to suggest that they aren't making enough to satisfy their investors (else that stock value would not have decreased so badly in such a short period of time) and that would be inclusive of any and all companies they own.

Perhaps we could compare it to this:

The corner market made a killing on Mt. Dew last year (I know this based on how much money I dumped into it =) ) but they lost their ass on sales of bread and milk. To eliminate the need for you to solve a written math problem, let's say they lost twice as much on the milk and bread but we weren't looking at that. We were only looking at the profits they made on the Dew..

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that there's plenty of info that we won't ever get the full details on, nor do we need it.

Jagex operates within the confines of any and all requirements of their parent company (Fukong Interactive) so even if the subsidiary of jagex did profit 75m, if another subsidiary of the parent company showed losses (that were more than the gains of this one) then the parent company has a net negative and not a net positive that y'all are trying so desperately to cling to.

Nobody has to figure out how much or how little jagex or their parent company makes or doesn't make though. You simply have to decide if the game is worth the extra buck and a half or not.. TO YOU. =)

you are correct that i must make the decision whether it is worth it. no it is not worth it to give money to a struggling chinese company. it is not worth it to spend my time supporting a struggling chinese company.

and attempting to reason with you totally makes it not worth it.

the last news article was. content and employees. it was not overhead, servers or supporting a failing chinese company. my posts have been in response to the articles.

the angel of death has made my decision for me

i'm done.

I don't understand the fuss.

There is a generous grace period of 14 days on all packages.

Because the "generous grace period" does absolutely nothing for you if:

a) You make a new account post-price increase (because we still can't have more than one character per account on the same game), such as when the group ironman mode gets released and you want to try it out.

b) You buy your membership through premier club, because it doesn't consider your grandfathered rate, and instead uses the newest pricing.

c) You buy membership with gp (bonds), because the gp price of bonds is bound to go up from this change.

This will be a problem, because it will also repel new players. £7/$10 can go a long way towards something else.

True, but at least the rates are frozen. I didn't buy Premier Club this year, yet I still have my rates back from when I first started paying for Premier.

Again, I agree, this is going to be a huge problem.
