This is mostly directed to Jagex, but please if anyone wants to reply and give me the information I am missing in this thought ^.^

So my thoughts (mostly a questions) was,

Could Jagex increase their income in the long run if they decrease the cost of membership and micro-transactions?

My reasoning behind this thought/question is that more people by something that costs less. It doesn't seem to hard to get someone who has already invested time and energy into the game to keep investing money, but the lower the cost the less daunting it is for someone new coming in to start paying.

Would it possibly be a good thing to decrease the number of worlds in game?

I know this one doesn't seem related to Jagex's finances and honestly I don't know if it is, so here is my follow up question to anyone who knows more about this: Does it cost Jagex more money day to day to have 141 worlds online versus say, 40-50? If it does then cutting down on worlds cuts down on expenses; regardless of if that is actually how it would work the following is why less worlds may be better for gameplay.

So after returning to the game from a pretty long break I noticed that there are obviously less players then there use to be. This means that the worlds have way less people in it and make the game feel a lot less social and a lot more empty. Every world has its hot spots, but most of the world is a playerless void. if they're were less worlds it would shoe horn people in a little and make the game feel alive. The amount of worlds made sence with the old player base, but don't maintain more game then you need.

final thought: Runescape needs more advertising, in the years since I stopped playing till now when I am playing again I can't recall seeing any advertisements for runescape. It seems like a lot more of Jagex's efforts need to go towards increasing the player base. The livelihood of the game long term depends upon the ability to grow.

TY

hmm I am a relatively new player ....
with a few concerns....

First I pay by game cards? so if I keep paying in the 14 days will my rate remain at the current rate... or is that only for subscribing members?
Along with this I'd like to be able to put in multiple game cards... in-order to pay for membership months in advance.... which doesn't seem to be an option now?

as far as paying a little more...
ok first if I am paying more I want to be able to actually play.... when I first started I was having no log in connection, nor lag and log out problems... now as these changes are rolling out I spend half my time in lag it seems the servers is trying to pull upon the resources of my computer to maintain itself?
this is especially apparently in high traffic zones... an around iron man accounts... so how is there system use configured differently?

if the increased cost is primarily to cover your mobile applications? the majority of the burden needs to be placed upon the users of that application... if you gut the base product to support the new mobile... both your clients and investors will be less than pleased...

finally your Mods need to be honest when dealing with clients if they don't know they need to say so... trying to give a jargon run around... that's bad they don't know to whom they will be giving lecture too... while not technical myself I do have such unhand on staff for my own concerns for example.... and if they lie or patronizing to myself or my clients they are fired.....

otherwise, if the new content warrants a minor increase I will continue to play....

my bad the drop was during 2015 though still in 2016 they got rid of 21 developers with still a net loss in employees in 2016 as they did hire a few more customer relations employees

Edit: either way my original point still stands about the actual likely reason jagex is hiking priced along with the point that #of employees is irrelevant to my main point.

also i still dont get why u keep claiming theres going to be a “25% employee increase”

jagex has not stated that to my knowledge in either this thread or the FAQ

I clearly stated in Page 43, Post 8 of this thread:

"Jagex is not alone among Cambridge technology companies in needing more staff but its numbers are quite striking.

The company currently employs 320 and anticipates growing that number to 400 this year.

“If I could wave my magic wand, I would add at least 100,” says Phi (Jagex CEO Manfred)l. “Realistically, in terms of the intake we could find and handle, we could probably add 70-80. And there’s more growth beyond that.

source: Cambridge Independent News. Feb 17, 2018. "

And you have replied to that post with the same quote several times on the following pages. It is obvious Jagex CEO Phil Mansell acknowledged the hiring of 70-80 or even more employees.

The latest Jagex News Discussion thread addressing the "Price Rise & Summer Content" also clearly stated the same reason:

"Also, for the past few months, we have been opening up a large number of positions to support the RuneScape team and mobile release."

In fact, Jagex never employed more than 400 employees since 2012-2013 when they staffed up for Transformer Universe under the ownership of IVP. IVP fired >36% of the total employees following the failure of TU. The headcount dropped to about 320 then Hongtou bought the company. They are now reinvesting in staffs rapidly again.

As a new player just a couple months old.... I am unaware of "any" advertising... or promotion upon the part of Jagex for Runescape... I stumbled upon them by accident looking for "older" games.
I would say they are NOT very "user" friendly in the customer service department....

so while I enjoy the game I am not sure if long term they are very concerned with getting new players... except for the mobile app

Looks like June 4th is when I quit. You guys don't put enough effort into this game to charge over $10 a month. Sure, maybe with the upcoming updates things might get better. But for the most part updates are often a big let down, maybe show some initiative bringing good content to the game on time and people would be more receptive. You've been delaying the bank rework and others because of RS Mobile, when the unfortunate reality is that mobile won't be as successful as some are hoping. You can't sit there and pretend like this price increase is justified when just last year you beat your previous years earnings by £15 million.

But if you don't let your subscription stop for more than fourteen days, you'll continue paying the same price you are now.

hmmmm ok soooo I have been reading a few of the posts.... and hmmm it seems like a number of the people are suggesting that Jagex has been looking for money, or has been handed off between companies several times..... lol
is this correct?

depending upon what's in the portfolio something could be negotiated

That's not the point, they are raising the price without justification. They released a post today trying to justify it but as far as I'm concerned, what they showed definitely does not justify a 20% price hike for a few updates that they say are going to be great.. Almost all "great" updates in the recent past have been big let downs, and until they step up their game they have not earned this price rise, especially considering their employee count has dropped by over 100 and last year they broke record earnings.

all the crying and whining and "ASSUMING"...............................

PATIENTS and Faith a quality that is hardly found anymore.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Community continues to do, what they been doing, even after Explanations and News. After all, we know "pleasing everyone" will never be done in rs or rl.
"Critics" and "know betters" will never go away.

But I can only hope that clarity will open some minds and hearts and own up to jumping the gun with assumptions or giving up. It's a personal choice I know. I will continue to have hope and Faith and Patients.

Thank you Runescape/Staff for all you try to do, I will stand behind you.

It has nothing to do with assumptions; Jagex has set its own timetables, and having failed to meet those deadlines, they're rightfully being criticized for it, just like anyone else would be for going past deadline on their work.

Reminder: M&S rework was revealed in 2015 Runefest as an update that'd come out in 2016. In 2018, we still don't have it. We've been patient for more than enough. > )
