I don't understand the line of reasoning of the naysayers.
Many of them don't even provide reasons for why they wish to keep things the way they are. It's just a caps-lock spamfest of "NOOOOO JAGEX DONT DO IT ITS GUNNA BE BADDD!!!!!!!1!!!!1111!!!"
Forgive me, but I like a game that actively involves ME in it. As in, I don't click and then go semi-AFK to watch YouTube videos. I -like- being able to push buttons to do more damage.
Do you know why this game will never be like WOW or any of the other "mainstream MMOs" that all copy WoW?
It's because Jagex takes their time when they implement something. They watch, they observe, and they study what works and what doesn't work.
In addition, Runescape quests -far- surpass quests in most other MMORPGs. Why? Because they actually mean something when you complete them. Instead of being just another way to grind experience to get to "end game," quests in Runescape offer incentive and are long and complex. They have rewards that make them worth doing!
And, of course, let's not overlook the fact this game does not have a healing class. This is, I feel, probably a good thing in the long run, because the moment you introduce "healers" into a game is the moment all balance goes out the window, because EVERYTHING in the game must be balanced around healers. Thus, Runescape is the only MMORPG with an intact PvM and PvP combat system that is "balanced." Why? Because it doesn't have healers.
So this game will be fine. This is a step in the right direction.
