Im not going to sound negative but with lots of bad experiences with china acquisitioning mmos,i really hope nothing comes out of this, there are many big potential games already ruined by chinese companies e.g Firefall. we really dont need anymore of this, Jagex has eaten their words many times before so despite what they tell us now things are about to take a turn for the worse if this happens.

anyone who reads this, tread with peril this is just the calm before the storm. and even with an urge petition this anti acquisition!

Agreed. I honestly hope for the future of Runescape this deal doesn't end up going through.

This acquisition is going to be
HUGELY beneficial!

What this acquisition will do is
give the game back to the players.

Players will try to fear monger or just post their lack of knowledge mixed with whatever fears their mind creates. But the evidence just isn't there to support those claims

What the evidence
strongly
suggests is that the proposed takeover company will not play a part in the game at all. They will leave it
completely
to Jagex.

But why?!
Well! the Chinese economy seems to be slowing down after a huge manufacturing boom. This means that the yuan (Chinese currency) is expected to lose its value. So everything owned in yuan will lose value too.
The solution to not lose value when the yuan does is to buy things that are not governed by the value of the yuan. Such as an overseas company. There is some risk involved in this, so the buying company wants to make sure that they find a company that is stable. Due to the
time constraints
in buying a foreign company they have to make sure that the companies owner(s) will no doubt accept. So they offer them more than the company is worth. This means they will lose some value due to the overpriced offer, but save value over keeping their worth in yuan.

This is called hedging.

Do you really think that the only thing this will bring is freedom from IVP and Friends??

I'm curious... How did the mining company even knew Jagex existed? Was it after a careful research of the gaming industry for a company that is "somewhat stable, has one or more strong brands, is big enough, yet small enough that it can be bought without too much regret if it all goes to hell "? Or perhaps someone was doing research about gold mining and happened across a site that sells "runescape gold" and some translation error led to a huge misunderstanding?

What possibilities would the acquisition provide that Jagex didn't have before?

I don't know what peoples obsession is with insinuating that all of china is gold farmers.
They would do what any company would do, regardless of race, look for the best opportunity.
They had to buy a company large enough that it would retain value but not too large that it wouldn't be bought.

Anyone who thinks this will only bring positives is being dishonest with themselves.

AT BEST, there will be no net change in what Jagex does whatsoever (These are investors too, you know).

AT WORST, you'll see what happens in the typical MMO nowadays (MASSIVE *2W and the game dies off in a year).

"but D4, da Jagex said it will be buzinus as us00al y0!"

Honestly...Jagex is lying straight through their ****** teeth with that one. Also, it's just a shoddy PR move used to sway people who don't have an inkling of knowledge when it comes to HR into thinking everything will be alright.

This investment company wants 100% shares. Meaning if they want to sack the CEO if the CEO doesn't want to do what they want, they will.

If this company wants to make Jagex's Runescape 100% Pay to Win, they can, and Jagex can do diddly **** about it. So no- it won't be business as usual.
