So Jagex is just Shandong Hongda Mining Co's mule account?
It would be more like a goldfarming account; just there to quietly make money while they do other things.

I think we all have to realise that Jagex employees are in as much of a vulnerable position (if not more) than us players.

I doubt Jagex employees would have much to say on the matter, as it is really up to the shareholders at this stage - who are usually motivated by self interest.

But honestly, there is barely enough information to start making conclusion (let alone predictions). We should just be grateful to even receive any news. It certainly indicates the emphasis Jagex places on community engagement, even in such an uncertain circumstance.

I'm both dubious and interested by this.

If Jagex is acquired by the Chinese company, perhaps they'll break into the Asian MMO markets. My understanding is that only a very small percentage of the current RS playerbase are from Asia.
So, Jagex could theoretically turn make a nice bit of revenue if they were to do so. Asia is known for having a strong gamer population. This money could then be used to expand Jagex and allow for more content.

On the other hand, perhaps this company will dictate what needs to be done and completely ruin RS.

What I expect to happen: Absolutely nothing. The company doesn't really care about Jagex so long as it's turning some level of profit. They aren't going to go on a big Asian marketing campaign, or make any "revolutionary" changes.

So, apprehensive I suppose. But hey, I'm not a big businessman, so I'm not fully informed anyway.

The deal, which is conditional upon government approval in the PRC, is due to close at the end of June.

They still need the go ahead from the Chinese government and there are still more than 3 months before "the end of June". There is a quiet period of 3 months. The chance is nobody from Jagex will have anything to tell until they get pulled into a Town Hall meeting with the new bosses at the end of June.

In the mean time, it is business as usual for Jagex. Employees go back to work. Players go back to play.

Im not going to sound negative but with lots of bad experiences with china acquisitioning mmos,i really hope nothing comes out of this, there are many big potential games already ruined by chinese companies e.g Firefall. we really dont need anymore of this, Jagex has eaten their words many times before so despite what they tell us now things are about to take a turn for the worse if this happens.

anyone who reads this, tread with peril this is just the calm before the storm. and even with an urge petition this anti acquisition!

Perhaps you have not heard about the story of how a Chinese telecommunication company decided to go into gaming business and purchased Riot and subsequently turned League of Legends into the #1 multiplayer online game in the world, but I am sure a lot of people have heard this success story.

However, do not always jump for joy if you work for or play games made by an western gaming studios which is scheduled to be bought out by a foreign firm. The same Tencent which bought Riot and made it a somebody in the gaming world have recently bought another western game developer, but instead of immediately stepping up efforts to promote their games, the first thing they did was cancelling one of the games already in beta.

Everything is situational. Just don't judge a book by its cover.
