The main issue at hand is whether Jagex can actually maintain its "business as usual" approach in this particular manner ( Mod Pips 1 ). I don't want to sound ethnocentric, but no one wants to see corruption and an influx of goldfarmers enter RS nor do we want to report to Shandong and China under those unfortunate circumstances.

According to Jagex in RuneScape vs. Real-world Trading , "There is a whole industry built up around [real-world trading] exploiting cheap labour and involving illegal activities" (par. 5). To me, the notion of cheap labor and illegal activities is synonymous to sweatshop, which sadly, the Chinese have seemed to mastered.

A lot has changed since that December 2007 article including microtransactions and bending the RWT rule in Jagex's favor, which has allowed the company to conduct its own RWT while opposing RWT. If this deal goes through, it looks like Jagex will be supporting RWT and a corrupt country with unfair labor laws. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jagex IP ban a plethora of goldfarmers from China? Now, this is what they want their player base to look like all due to a Chinese acquisition.

No metal, I think you're confused.

Jagex will BE a company owned by a company in China. I suspect the new owners could care less about who their player base is, as long as there's profits to be had.

None of us can know what's going to happen to the game (or Jagex, the company). Not even Pips.

Sure they can claim it'll be 'business as usual' but it's nothing more than wishful thinking on their part (and I don't blame them for wishing it).

The current player base needs to understand the bottom line though. And that bottom line is that it doesn't matter what the current player base wants and it doesn't matter what current jagex staff want.

The absolute bottom line is that the only thing that's going to matter is what the new owners want (and they're not likely to give a rat's ass about what the current players want; this is just my opinion, but there it is).

The owners (the new ones, rather) are likely to take the stance of "we paid, we say". See?

Perhaps, you need to have another read at my post. As I'm on the verge of securing my AA in Business, I know exactly what an acquisition is. My issue rests with the degree of control Shandong could potentially have as it IS a Chinese company, which could lead to a downpour of goldfarmers and other negative circumstances. I also alluded to Jagex selling out to Shandong as being ironic and a mere contribution to RWT and sweatshops since they had released an anti-RWT statement and their rationale behind their past actions.

I read your post but honestly, you bring up things not even relevant to the discussion of this acquisition. Jagex stance on anything, in 2007, has nothing to do with a business transaction happening now, in 2016.

For all we know, this new company will not only allow RWT and gold farming, but even sell the despised bots that everyone complains about. That's not something we can know and it's not something the current staff at jagex will have any power over once the new owners create their own rules.

New owners don't have 'potential' control over anything. They have absolute control over everything that is jagex.

You claim you don't want to report to Shendong when in actuality that's a direct insult to the new owners if the acquisition goes through (because anybody having anything to do with any jagex product will at that point be reporting to/under the terms of, the new owner).

It'll be their game. No matter how distasteful you might find that.

Those statements about RWTing were made by the then owners of Jagex, the Chinese company wanting to buy Jagex will have 100% control over everything if the sale goes ahead and as we already know the current investors of Jagex are only in it for the money and to have £207m ($300m USD) waved in their faces I highly doubt they'll refuse it. So any previous statements on anything will be void if the sale goes ahead.

I don't know how people look at Jagex as anything more or less other then what they look at which is a pig ready for the slaughter and this pig been slaughtered a few times before in the past. First sell out from the 1st owner creators and good on them they made a game which grew popular and got money waved around they took it with both hands saying thank you can I have some more.

Now the whole pig is getting sold oversea for it's 3rd slaughtered and the chances of anyone even in a position to do anything is already celebrating over the fact that they got $$ from the perceived hard work and time they put into it which is work for them not a game. The people that making all the high fly decision if you look at it would look at each and everyone of us as dollar bag signs.

The Jmod which are the ones that look after us and bring us new content got to please whoever is master that how employees and business work if they want to keep working that is. I don't know how anyone even think it's emotional for the top people because they couldn't care less how the community feels or what the community is thinking/saying or even take the time to.

On the other hand the new owners might be incline to see what we actually thought about them ect and if they just looking at this one thread on the forum reading some of the stuff they are reading that going to just make things all the more harder for us long run as they haven't done anything to us yet told Jagex employees they would keep a lot of the stuff the same for now at least for the foreseeable future would be business as usual.

Which is what everyone can agree on but for the previous owner saying no to $$ I would legit punch them in the face for been so dumb if they don't take it offer like who wouldn't? You paid x amount of dollars for it you put in a bit of time working on it the community largely hates you why not just sell it off and make mega bucks go into a new investment venture.

Honestly, Chinese investors are the shrewdest investing circle in the world. The ONLY reason any Chinese investor would think about sending their money outwards is to escape conviction or corruption from the Chinese government.

In Canada alone, they are ruining the housing market and leaving it in a expensive mess that no one can clean up.

The investors can't be trusted, not by us, and I hope not by you Jagex developers.

Canada already said no more from what I read on the internet and blocked all future money company into that market space. Reason 32b hitting the Australian housing market atm and that going to be the same result until the people of Australia say no which potentially maybe never as most of us don't like thinking that anything could possibly happen with investment because isn't outside money good for the economy?

But yeah off topic it's about Jagex buyout but just wanted to comment and the Canadian government is already cleaning up by putting blocks in place. To be honest China wasn't the one in the past few global meltdowns that almost cause the rest of the world into the medieval ages... In term of that I believe they are a decade or two away....

Which might not be that bad get to experience irl RS... Instead of playing inside the safe game you are experiencing the real thing. All jokes aside the Chinese market are still catching up to western markets.
