Lets take a second here to think, if this game was bought out by the chinese, and opened up more to a chinese playerbase. It would be good bye to the prayer skill, skeletons and bones. (prayer being removed because of bones being removed xd). Those things tend to be either censored and removed from chinese games i've played online, as it's representing a taboo subject in their culture.

Another thing to think of, how much has Jagex made in the past 10 years or so, how could this chinese company see to squeeze more money out of the game than it is already.

Prayer is a pointless skill anyway. No one is gonna miss the prayer skill if it has to go in the name of political correctness not to offend the Chinese, then it's fine by me, I personally dont care. That is a small price to pay for potentially quintupling the entire Runescape population.

Chinese Runescape and English Runescape cant be 2 seperated versions of the game. We all have to be playing the same Runescape or its a waste of time.

Do you really believe that? I think they're just saying things in order to keep us calm since everyone basically freaked out upon hearing about it.

This whole update is meaningless simply because anything can change and we can't turn around and hold this against them as they'll pull out the "nothing was confirmed" card.

The deal is between the share holders and the company. Jagex staff have no real say in the matter. They know only slightly more then we would. And everything is a massive IF.

To be completely honest the only people possibly truly getting screwed over are the Jagex staff. To the players this is still just a game. You might be upset at the changes but you should get over in a day or two. This if their jobs their bread and butter.

If it goes though and if they decide to really **** with stuff that causes players to leave and the game to crass and burn. Jagex staff are the ones going to be most hurt because they will be unemployed.

We loose nothing. They loose a lot.
I'm a big entropy fan.

This is clearly about money not the players, otherwise offers would be rejected.
The shareholders don't care that they are just selling more of the UK's industry to China,
and that everything will have a big impact, more exporting profits of British success away from where such a thriving business is needed. Why not consider a partnership or something instead of just going for money and hoping things will stay the same. No mod knows really nothing will happen, they say it themselves negotiations are early, so really they haven't got a clue what will happen, they are giving false reassurance to the community. Jmods are welcome to reply to me on this, in my inbox, email or here if I get a notification.

Well said Pussum!!!
As someone living on Teesside & that is an active trade unionist, I've seen first hand the result of Chinese sharp practice, thousands of people made redundant just before xmas, with a knock on effect that will cripple many thousands more and will quite possibly be the fatal blow that kills what's left of the area I live in, so you'll forgive me for not being ****-a-hoop at the prospect of the Chinese making moves on anything else over here.
( I'm not even going to go into government bonds and power stations here! )

This is a buy out to allow them to make money, Pounds Sterling or Yankee Dollars, they won't mind either, thank you very much ta, if you please. What they most certainly won't be are philanthropists, here to give us players the utmost consideration in everything that they do!

If this Chinese company buys the majority share of jagex they can do what they like with the game, it will be theirs. That means, yes, they can add more micro transactions, they can allow gold farming, they can allow bots, they can stop hosting these forums. The shots will be theirs to call, not Jagex' & most certainly not ours.

Noticing it is a Chinese company looking to buy the game, I am particularly worried about a fair few issues:

First, and possibly most important, is the impact of Chinese on line censorship. I have first hand experience on dealing with the communist censors during gaming and social networking on Chinese sites.
This makes me worry the take over company is bound to comply with Chinese netizen rules. despite it being a foreign game - by Chinese law, they are responsible for upholding Chinese morals as it would be technically Chinese property.
The community talks about anything, does this mean chat filters for things such as swearing, websites and openly saying certain phrases (e.g mentioning Falun Gong) would be introduced to "protect" Chinese players? , If so, would we receive uncensored Westerner only worlds?

ive been screwed over by Tencent before for being a Westerner Alpha testing one of their games because i was British and accomplished something in game... My details were leaked to Chinese web media... for weeks, I received texts, calls etc from angry Chinese people... This is worrying as
YOU HAVE NO POWER
to protect your players on the Chinese internet compared to your legal powers in the UK to prosecute hackers / on line bullying...

Thing is.. how is this even going to work out? technicly you would been to run 2 games, one outside firewall, one inside as their is no way certain elements of this game would be culturally acceptable in China (prayer skill, bones, inedible stray dogs etc)

I know my concerns are over-hyped, but these are honest concerns. A Chinese buyout in my opinion raises more suspicion than pleasure... sure, it would be nice to see more players, but the main flaw is that this game does not support Mandarin or a Pinyin - charecter system...

I'll also add that, if they do take over, I will be removing any access to my bank account, without hesitation and with immediate effect. If I continue membership, it will be by prepaid cards only.

It all just seems like a political shot fired more than anything else, In that its China economically stealing territory from Great Britain. It could just be China flexing its muscles(no matter how small), saying all of runescape is just a tiny addition to a failing coal mining companies stock portfolio. Our tiny mining company owns your biggest gaming company, ego stroking sort of thing.

It could be for reasons outside purely business is all Im saying. My NWO senses have been going off the charts lately, I think the powers that be have taken an interest in Runescape. Though im not sure why...
