Same answer, really. I'm bored with the drama and the pointless speculation - both of which is just going around in circles.

So yea, doubtful very doubtful I'll bother posting again. Unless I get accused of something else, of course :P

According to yesterday's Wall St Journal, "China is considering new Internet rules that would pressure service providers to cut off access to foreign websites, adding to the government’s growing legal framework bolstering its control of cyberspace.". That would explain why foreign gaming firms are suddenly in vogue amongst Chinese companies. This adds weight to the theories posted on this forum that the new owners would probably run two development teams - one for Chinese growth (controlled closely by the state) and another to retain the existing income streams outside of China.
The two markets are very different culturally and two different games running off the same operating system makes sense to me.
The main concern of the Chinese government having access to so much personal data still worries me, though; there are a few legal hoops to jump through before this drama is played out..........

Why would you think the Chinese government would have any access to your personal data?

The Chinese government have unfettered access to all data owned by their companies. There is no distinction between privately-owned data and state-owned.
There is no Data Protection Act in China.
The Chinese people have a very different outlook on privacy of information.

Read the Privacy Policy of Jagex (link at the bottom of this page) to see just how much personal data is held, and then ask yourself if you are happy with that information in the hands of an authoritarian state.

If you're worried about your personal data, then you can contact Jagex and have them remove any personal data. There are directions on doing this in the Data Protection Policy.

They have stated on the opening page that they expect Jagex to remain a UK based company, thus the Chinese government wouldn't have access to any personal data.

That is exactly my intention if my concerns are not addressed before the acquisition.

"The information we collect may be used"
---

"In the event of an actual or proposed (including as part of negotiations for any) merger, or business combination or sale of substantially all of our assets or a business operation to which such information relates, or as provided under bankruptcy or applicable insolvency laws or by the enforcement of equitable rights."

That ^ from the privacy policy linked at the bottom of the page.

Your concerns ARE valid. However, that suggests that it might already be too late to ask them to delete info because that explicitly states "In the event of an actual or proposed" sale.

The question then becomes... have they already 'shared' the information in accordance with their privacy policy?

Your personal information wouldn't be related to any proposed sale, thus, it wouldn't be passed on to the 3rd party. Other information related to the proposal would be however (such as number of paying users, regional user data, etc.).
