Don't do it.

IVP is the shareholder, if they decide to sell - it will happen. Jagex are not in full control over this.

Then don't waste our time with drama over something potentially inevitable...

ITT: People think Jagex have a say in the matter.

Honestly I bet some Jagex staff are just as worried as the players seeing as there could possibly be layoffs following this deal.
Sip Yep, RuneScape was a good game.

I wonder how Jagex would react with the censorship of China: prayer skill, bones, vengeance spell, most of the lore, etc. These things are banned in the China.

Actually there are specific laws in China. I'll quote what someone said on the reddit thread about this:

This is the one thing I've seen no one bring up. Censorship is a massive issue with Chinese games, specifically because China has actual laws saying what game companies can and cannot create.

• Gambling-related content or game features
• Anything that violates China’s constitution
• Anything that threatens China’s national unity, sovereignty, or territorial integrity.
• Anything that harms the nation’s reputation, security, or interests.
• Anything that instigates racial/ethnic hatred, or harms ethnic traditions and cultures.
• Anything that violates China’s policy on religion by promoting cults or superstitions.
• Anything that promotes or incites obscenity, drug use, violence, or gambling.
• Anything that harms public ethics or China’s culture and traditions.
• Anything that insults, slanders, or violates the rights of others.
• Other content that violates the law

I don't like my money ending up in a country where the government makes people disappear.

So, America?

I'm not very familiar with Americans disappearing, but there are quite some cases in China. I wouldn't want to be involved with a company that pays taxes to a government that has kidnapped and imprisoned a 6 year old boy on political grounds.

Yes, I'm very familiar with the laws as it is the same applied in the DotA 2 scene - skeletons replaced with more full bodies, less blood, etc., but my question still stands: how much it will change? I hope a J Mod will reply.

I take it that you are dutch. Going by your logic, you should probably stop living in your own country then because it has a large and healthy trade relation with China with huge amount of investments and goods imports.

Google "CIA extralegal rendition", "Guantanamo" and "Drone warfare"

So essentially Runescape would be unplayable at all in China, given that it is steeped in Lore, Gods, prayer and the like. Not to mention the however-many items within the game referencing Gods (godswords, god related armours). Godwars dungeon itself would have to vanish.

I can't begin to imagine how many more things would violate that list of "must not do".

So if they can't market it in Asia, I wonder what the heck they are going to do with it.

I do hope that people realise that the only thing changing is the investors. So that means the only changes will be who gets the profits at the end of the day.

The staff at Jagex will still be running the game. This changes nothing.

Right. Just like nothing changed after the IVP buyout. Except flooding the game with MTX and providing an "official" RWT channel.
if it runs the same as ivp's investment did, we have 8 years to wait before any major changes are made to the game

Your statement would make sense if IVP had acquired a controlling interest of Jagex in 2005. If you'd done 10 seconds of research you would know that only happened 2012.

They will change the content like Blizzard or Valve done: rename, rephrase the needed lines, redesign the needed items and models.
