To be clear, as others have reiterated, it's not the mods everyone knows and loves who are making the final decision, although some of them will be reading through everyone's concerns. IVP holds a controlling share in Jagex and will likely hugely influence the final decision. Jagex was an investment for them, as it was for the other investment groups The Raine Group and Spectrum Equity Investors. If it looks like a profitable decision for them, they'll likely sell to Shandong Hongda.

ETA: So even though Jagex is listening to players, the ones controlling the fate of Jagex aren't listening (and might not really care).

Am I the only one that wants to see this buyout actually happen just to see if something interesting happens? I would much rather be more interested in seeing the changes that would come from a shift like this. Stagnant things are a bit plain and boring, so I welcome the move.

Future changes :P

You will be paying your membership and microtransaction fees to some weird company like Jagex Luxembourg/Amsterdam Ltd. For tax planning reasons.

Jagex won't be making profit anymore but owes money and pays licensing fees to some company which in turn is in debt to some third company and so on. But fear not. Jagex is stable and has all the resources it need. It's just "aggressive tax planning". Totally legal.

Good Morning Gielinor will interview top goldfarmers of the month. There will be special worlds which don't have botwatch.

Mods Lee and Shauny will run events together with Mod Mao.

Chinese government will have access to your computer via Runescape client backdoor.

Expect to see bugs where all dialog text is in kanji.

Next GameBlast won't have pizzas but Chinese food...

So basically it's business as usual and product itself won't be affected...

I do hope that people realise that the only thing changing is the investors. So that means the only changes will be who gets the profits at the end of the day.

The staff at Jagex will still be running the game. This changes nothing.

Right. Just like nothing changed after the IVP buyout. Except flooding the game with MTX and providing an "official" RWT channel.
if it runs the same as ivp's investment did, we have 8 years to wait before any major changes are made to the game

Your statement would make sense if IVP had acquired a controlling interest of Jagex in 2005. If you'd done 10 seconds of research you would know that only happened 2012.
if you'd done 10 seconds research you would have found it was 2010 when they got 55%,
the 35% they had from 2005 would still have given them some control over how things were ran

Google "controlling interest".
Once you go NXT, you never go back.

If talks happen and an acquisition becomes a reality is there anyway that the integrity of the game could be safeguarded by being implemented in a contract orso?

I ask this as an acquisition does not need to be bad and as you've mentioned it would open JaGex up to the (big) asian market. What the players are really concerned is how it will affect the current sate of the game regarding the people working on the game, the direction of the game and the influence of MTX in the game.

These are all valid concerns and the influence of IVP has not been, well, appreciated in its fullest by the players and they are just scared of the thought of a bigger, foreign company doing exactly the same.. If somehow you/JaGeX, the people involved in the talks can actually 100% promise us that the inner workings of JaGeX could be as they were, it be even bigger/extended due asian market, i think the main player base would be calmed down a lot.

Jagex needs to address the concerns of their community or they risk losing everything they built. I hope the people ironing out the rest of this deal will understand that an MMO's value is not in the game itself but the community that it builds and maintains. Jagex has maintained a culture within the game's community and if thats not properly perserved the game will not survive. If this agreement goes through it's going to be very hard for that Chinese Mining company to preserve what Jagex worked so hard to build without the communities support.

This is actually concerning, a company that has 0 to do with video games, is looking to acquire Jagex. There's been so many times I've been disappointed in Jagex and their decisions these past 10 years, but I feel like if this goes through, it would be the final nail in the coffin for this game.

Fingers crossed this doesn't go through.

I don't know if that's possible. Like Marielle was saying earlier, this deal comes down to whether Jagex's shareholders are willing to sell their shares. It doesn't sound like anyone who actually works at Jagex has much of a say in the matter.

There are a lot of unknowns in the deal like this, and I imagine the folks at JagexHQ are feeling almost as much anxiety as the players are.
