So essentially Runescape would be unplayable at all in China,

So if they can't market it in Asia, I wonder what the heck they are going to do with it.
You do realize Asia is a bit larger than China, right? I'd anticipate a huge push into the Korean and Japanese markets.

It would be easier to enter S. Korea and Japan as their laws aren't that different to the western ones, China is the only problem but most likely - focused market.
I think the J-Mods and the massive community support is one of the things that makes Runescape as great as it is. I've played asian games before like Maplestory and DragonsNest and I have to say that their community support is non existant. I think the biggest changes that could come from this acquisition would be a complete change in company culture where the people who are playing this game are just sub fees. I know Jagex has no control over this acquisition but lets face it this game is going to be worth so much less without the J-Mods. Good Luck Jagex, if I were working there I would be putting my resume together right now its only a matter of time before you're jobs are outsourced to China. With this news I guess its a good time to start looking at other MMO's to play to fill the spot in my heart left by runescape.

So lets get this straight:
Jagex is in the process of being sold off by IVP to a company Shandong Hongda Mining Co which, according to the
article published by Financial Times,
have had a pretty rough past recently.
Read it if you haven't yet already.
It is labelled as a "
lossmaking
" enterprise looking for investments that have 'stable returns' whereas the company itself has had mounting debts where its shareholders "have borrowed heavily in the domestic shadow banking sector" and that its losses have been reportedly around 55m USD for 2015.
If Jagex was doing well on its own or if IVP had any hope of making more profit or expecting more growth from the company, it would NOT sell Jagex to another enterprise. If they had any choice, they would NOT agree to the acquisition proposal coming from a company from a totally different domain that does NOT understand the gaming market, and the recent performance track record.
It looks like Jagex is being sold as a cash cow for this new company to milk and cover its own losses. I am quite certain that Jagex will be forced to make quite some controversial changes to achieve those revenue goals.
All I have to say is RIP
Fully agreed.

Well hopefully buying levels never becomes a thing.
I know you can effectively do that indirectly via TH, but it's not the same thing as buying the actual level(s) since you still have to train the skill to earn experience, bonus or not.

Inb4 this is a large-scale April Fools joke lead-in.
I keep hearing about "mining" and stuff and I'm just too confused.
But if it is serious, good luck! Maybe all the JMods will get raises!
I can confirm that this is an official statement from us and that it is not an April Fools. I think we'd get in big trouble with the Financial Times and others if we were trying to prank people.

Why are people citing Financial Times when they misreported the information?
And what proof do you have that a source like Financial Times is misreporting?
