I have been a loyal veteran to Runescape and Jagex since 2001. I have seen Runescape go from 300k daily players to 80k, changes in management, and years of updates that have mixed feelings tied to them. I have recently returned with a new account strictly for playing Old School Runescape servers specifically.

As a veteran, loyal customer, and someone who has been with the world of Runescape for over a decade I have a few questions that I would be delighted to see answered by Jagex staff.

Will this acquisition target advertising Runescape in new ways, new player bases from different locations around the world, and more budget to provide Runescape with the updates it needs for the future? Or will this acquisition change Runescape from the unique game many including myself have known for years to a generic Chinese massive online multiplayer game, full of microtransactions, loss of community input, and a complete redesign of Jagex staff?

I would greatly appreciate a response to my questions when the time is right.

Thank you.

They are negotiating to sell - nothing has been signed, yet.
Yes, April 30th is the deadline for them to put down the initial $100m down payment (from what I can gather from poorly translated chinese).

Hmmmm

"May you live in interesting times" springs to mind.
Heh. Ya. It's sometimes hard to understand what is being conveyed when it's translated like:

"HTC mining and transformation of the way down before a son. March 14 evening, HTC Mining announced that the company intends to Shanghai Pintian venture capital partnership jointly Network Technology Co., Shanghai macro investment capital increase, after the completion of the capital investment and the macro network registered capital of 2.2 billion yuan, of which Honda Mines 5.5 billion yuan, accounting for 25% equity.
The two sides will acquire 100% stake in cast network British company Jagex games through macros.
"

The last line seems pretty clear though. :P

Also, does this not reek of money laundering to anyone else?
Care to explain?

"Shady.. mining companies in China are doing terrible. They're expecting mass layoffs, as in the hundreds of thousands. Looks more like some execs found 300 million in their socks they had to hide real quick or risk ending up in a re-education camp or lynch party."

"Chinese companies often do this (like the Russians) to try to get money out of the country as this is one of the few legal ways to do that for them. Chinese government has heavy restrictions on that.

Actual interest in Runescape is minimal I think but you never know.

Minecraft and the insane sale price was also a result of Microsoft having 1 billion euros parked in Europe and they needed a way to get that out without a heavy tax loss."

What does this mean for the plans we have for our games and our fantastic community? Put simply, our plans, including the launch of NXT, Zeah, Chronicle: RuneScape Legends, God Wars Dungeon 2, and RuneScape: Idle Adventures, remain on track. It is business as usual across Gielinor!

For how long? I mean, idk where the info is coming from but players are saying this asian company is basically buying Jagex out with $300m worth of shares or something!!!

If this is the case, just how much input and decision making will be done by the current team? What if they axe rs and turn it into something completely different?? What if they don't care about the current community and want to redevelop the game into something that accommodates their demographical gaming community???

I have no problem with Jagex expanding it's market into new places but please be careful how you do it!

OMG please tell us this is an early April fools joke!!!
That which makes us all the same is the fact that we are all different
