"Shady.. mining companies in China are doing terrible. They're expecting mass layoffs, as in the hundreds of thousands. Looks more like some execs found 300 million in their socks they had to hide real quick or risk ending up in a re-education camp or lynch party."
I'm pretty sure that if you wanted to hide $300m, you wouldn't go out and purchase one of the largest software developers in the UK. Besides, why would any of the executives need to hide any money? It's a limited liability company, the liability is restricted to the company itself, not any of the owners or employees.

Heh. Ya. It's sometimes hard to understand what is being conveyed when it's translated like:

Mate, that reads like something you'd see in freaking Pokemon Vietnamese Crystal (for those of you who don't know,: it's a bootlegged version of Pokemon Crystal famous for its lack of proper translation into English leading to some...funny...dialogue).
"Revenge...is like a rolling stone, which, when a man hath forced up a hill, will return upon him with a greater violence, and break those bones whose sinews gave it motion."- Jeremy Taylor

I don't normally comment on this stuff but whatever Jagex does I hope they make the right decision and seriously think this through and don't decide to jump on the boat just because of monetary reasons.

I'll understand if they are struggling financially but I would think there are other options around this or if they keep waiting a better opportunity may come along; hence, as they say good things come to those who wait.

Ultimately, at the end of the day if they do decide to go through with this I don't think I'll ever reinstate membership or at least by means through my credit cards rather than bonds ingame. So, just hope they make the right decision.

What if they axe rs and turn it into something completely different?? What if they don't care about the current community and want to redevelop the game into something that accommodates their demographical gaming community???

This is what I don't understand about a lot of the comments on this thread. They're a mining company, right? Who do they have on staff that knows anything about running a video game, or would understand the distinction between different in-game monetization strategies and all that?

Surely they're paying 300M not only to buy Jagex's property but to also to employ people with a track record of running a profitable video game company. I don't know, maybe I'm being naive in making that assumption.

Of course, if they buy Jagex outright they can change whatever they want, but wouldn't the smart move be to let the people with game making experience tell you how to make the best return on your investment in a company that makes video games?

One of my concerns is this: in the past, many of the largest gold farming/selling rings were set up by, and staffed by, Chinese businesses. I'd hate to see us go back to Botscape with literally hundreds of bots camping every skilling resource in the game simply because one Chinese company wants to do a favor for another Chinese company.

I'm not naive, IVP has no sentimentality for this game, for them, it's all about the Benjamins. Business is business, and I'm not saying I disagree with that.

However, as someone who has playing RS a long time, I will admit this news is troubling to me.

The company who owns Jagex needs to cash out on its initial investment made in 2005 and then the second one in 2010.

Chinese company wants to buy it to diversify their portfolio with Jagex cashflows.

Most likely outcome is that the day-to-day matters will be left to the UK people. It'll be business as usual.

I am surprised though by the amount of anti-China hysteria.
If you are willing to chuck your most precious possessions like phats because someone said words like crashing/dying/quitting and then find yourself unable to rebuy for what you sold for, then you don't deserve to own a phat.
