There is also a very possible really good outcome for the game as well.
Nothing good will come from this. Nothing at all.

The china IP ban will most certainly be lfited like the OP hints to with expanding into asia markets. In come the floodgates of gold farmers.

And we have anti bot measures specifically for that.

The problem with that is the fact that China has NO copyright systems. If they get access to the source code, undetectable bots will be sold by the Chinese version of Jagex.

That equals DEAD GAME.

Fairly certain they do have a copyright system. They don't recognize international copyright how ever.

Bots were always a massive problem in the game before. It is only recently that bots have been under control. So I don't see much change happening.

Um... why would Jagex sell bots for their own game, when they could just continue to sell bonds and treasure hunter keys to players?

Except jagex has declining income trends last I checked.
When was the last time you checked?

I believe 2012, 2013, 2014 but I'm on my phone right now.
I haven't checked in a while, but I don't have anything in my paypal right now, so I can't order any documents. A lot can happen in a year. You can go from a profit of 180m to a loss of 55m. And vice versa of course. ^_^

I think Companies House changed it so they're free, now. I'm at work, so I can't shouldn't check (and if anyone asks, this is a database).

Easy:

1. Make Chinese version of RS.
2. Monitise it to the EXTREME.
3. Sell bots and pretend they aren't from their own company.
4. Profit 2x.

Jagex had a negative retained profit in 2011 (i.e., they lost money), but saw a large increase in net retained profit in 2012, a decrease from 2012 in 2013 but still positive profits, and an increase in 2014. The financials haven't really been around long enough to establish a trend.

Also if the goal is to expand into the South East Asian market and the Central Asian market, then why not form a strategic partnership with some related firms over there? An acquisition is not a smart business move, especially with a company with a totally different corporate culture (from what I can find) and that operates in an entirely unrelated business sector.

I'll have a number 32 with dip please.

I doubt this will make any difference to the updates we get, well, at least it shows that the fact that someone is actually willing to buy Jagex means that they aren't quite going down in the dumps.

Breaking the quote chain here as I dislike big long strings:

"Asian market is a different kind of market, their games are much different compared to what we have in RS. The asian crowd is massive and they are heavily invested in esports, mobas or games that are heavily influenced with Asian culture, not to mention the heavy pay to win model thats popular in Asia. You would either have to radically change RS to make it likable in Asia and kill several existing players OR abandon RS to make the kind of MMOs that are popular in Asia. Either way its my personal opinion that it's not going to work."

It'd work for them whichever way they decide to go.

They can either keep the existing model - the 'Western' model if you like - and chuck in a load more pay to win junk for us and then modify the game to suit the 'Eastern' market and present it to them as a sort-of Runescape. Win-win.

Or they could just take the core of Runescape and adapt it for their Eastern audience and let the smaller Western game die off. They'd still make a packet from their Eastern players.

Whatever, it's all mere speculation. If they rip the guts out of Runescape then I'll just find another game that's more suitable.

What concerns me most is who in the future will be able to access my credit card details.
