To be honest, this is both a good thing and a bad thing, but I do honestly think this was the right step to make at this point. Sometimes the right choice is not a "good" thing.

The bad thing is that we can now indirectly buy Runescape GP with real world money, by selling these bonds in-game.

However, I think it answers many more problems than it causes, and if people are going to buy Runescape GP anyways, then it might as well go to Jagex for updates. It's for the best.
Farmers will make the price much lower than buying from Jagex.

I believe that EVE online has something similar, at least in the fact that you can purchase subscription time with in game currency. The economy of that game is completely player based capitalism, and so far it has been working well. Still, it will be interesting to see where these bonds lead.

One month membership purchased for 16 mil. Not too shabby, wish I could buy more but I'm not exactly rich. One of your best updates ever though, thanks Jagex. :)

wait until the moment when it gets so out of hand that i'll have to consider whether i should by a bond or a seismic want(300-600m)

Ah, so Runescape has officially become Pay2Win with the introduction of gold purchasable directly from Jagex.

Really does disgust me how much these ways of getting extra-revenue Jagex has added in the past year and a half or so has totally contradicted their old values and statements, and has really ruined the game.

Honestly, this update has the potential to cause Runescape's demise. It's way easier for this update to be a complete failure and cause the game to end, than it does to be successful and actually "fix" the economy and RWT. I guess back a few years when Jagex said Runescape did not allow RWT of any kind, they forgot to put the asterick stating "except from us"

Jagex are not selling gold and have no intention of doing so. No extra gold is being introduced into the economy by the introduction of bonds.

RuneScape is not a pay-to-win game. Players have no way of purchasing the time and knowledge of how to use items most effectively - that is something that comes with experience playing the game. It's time invested in the game that yields XP growth, knowledge, and skills.

Don't quite understand this -

How do bonds help prevent RWT?

Surely if a RWT'er has X amount of money, and I can either buy bonds for £3 a piece, or buy millions of gold, and then invest that in bonds or other items....

RWT'ers aren't stupid. :P

So... whether or not jagex will admit it they have officially given their players a "monetary" value for their runescape items.

so if hypothetically Bob hacks me by keylogging my computer then steals 100m worth of runescape items Bob would have officially committed theft because there is now an official exchange rate for runescape items to real world cash.

(£3 / the market price of the bonds. for the sake of this argument we'll use 6M rsgp as it's a nice round figure of 50p per mil.)

Bob has now stolen £50 worth of my items.

now that Bob has broken real world laws shall you, jagex, be referring this to the police?

as far as I can see that's where this update has taken the matter of hacking.

Would like to see a Mod respond to this. :)
