They're selling an item that you can sell for gold, not gold directly. The gold must be payed for by another player and you must pay to make it tradeable upon buying it on the grand exchange, and of course, the people buying the bonds may be using them for the Solomon store or the sof. that in itself being a money sink. at least, that's how i understand it.

I'll break it down a little.

Before Trading: you have to pay "tax" so that the bond becomes tradeable. -1.5m
Sof: You can buy 8 spins with the bond. -15m
SGS: You can exchange your bond for rune coins. -15m
Membership: You can exchange the bond for roughly half a months membership. -15m
Selling: You can sell the bond for 15m sure. but that money will still leave the economy if the person who bought it, uses it. +15m to you, -15m from the actual game economy.

So you see, This IS a money sink. when the bond is finally used. that money has left the game forever along with any tax money spent on letting you trade it. and generally speaking its pretty good in the sense that you can now buy items in game that you previously might not have been able too, like a new cosmetic or some spins...if you're essentially brain dead, that is.

This update is to remove excess money from the game while also benefiting the player base. poorer people can now get membership without it crippling their wallet and the same goes for a SGS item. Does that really sound so bad? I mean if you have a ton of rs gold to spend and you always wanted that assassin outfit, but didn't want to pay £35 for the stupid thing, now you can.

My only major criticism is that i feel the bonds are a little overpriced and pretty much under deliver. If it offered the full months membership, perhaps 300 rune coins and say 10-15 spins on the squeal of fortune instead of what we've been given. I'd say this is a really solid and interesting update. It just needs a bit of fine tuning. :)

So let me get this straight... A new level 3 account can spend $5 and buy millions of GP, with Jagex's blessing? To me, that ruins the game in a massive way.

This is Jagex-sponsored RWT, and the only reason they are doing it is to make an extra buck. I think the worst part of it is their asinine marketing. They make it sound all wonderful with the fake testimonials and completely ignore how unfair this is, since it essentially says the more money you pay Jagex, the easier the game becomes for you. Didn't Jagex always say RWT was unacceptable because it gave certain players an advantage over others? Again, I suppose that's okay now, since Jagex is making an extra buck.

Last point: I would be absolutely amazed if 40-50% of players purchased gold online. I'm almost certain they inflated that number to make this update sound not so bad.

So they finally broke their most core value and are selling RS gold for money. Thanks for all the memories, I'm cancelling my membership as soon as I'm done posting this.

RIP Jagex 1998 - 2012.
Which ever company is running Jagex now deserves to go bankrupt.

But it's not actually injecting money into Runescape, it's players buying them from other players, so the money they're worth is already in the game.

This is the greatest update of all time. Sure casual botters won't really be affected by the update at start (I'm going to spin flax to buy membership) but the professionals are completely deprived of income! This means the bots won't be developed as fast anymore and successive small updates will completely eliminate botting.

Thank you Jamflex! :)

OHGOD MMG DONT SCARE ME LIKE THAT
i thought he was about to say they were bringing back a trade limit. i was going to poop myself.

This sounds good, although it does sound a bit like "Instead of buying gp from third parties, you can now buy it from us!"
If we can buy bonds (with real money) and sell them for ingame GP, what is the difference between this and RWT with a third party site in china?
If a foe from within strike a blow at her glory,
Down, down with the traitor that dares to defile
The flag of her stars and the page of her glory!

"While our efforts against botting and gold farming have been increasingly effective, our analyses have shown that a long-term real-world trading problem persists."

"This is an incredibly dangerous problem that we’re determined to solve in the interest of the long-term health of the game."

Obviously it was you that didn't read the post.

You're putting words into my mouth I never said:

My issue regarding not respecting Jagex over this is because they keep touting an anti-RWT, play2win message while at the same time continually introducing new RWT and pay2win systems of their own.

I also don't object to Jagex making money, they're a for profit company after all. It's the hypocrisy I have a problem with. That and the fact that they're selling out their morals for nothing. This isn't going to work. As I said in the original post, the gold farmers will just undercut the Jagex price and nothing will change.

In your first quote, keywords are "have been" That means past efforts.

In your second quote, they state it's something they're determined to solve, not that bonds are the attempt to stop RWT. Simply that it's something they are determined to solve "for the long-term" Immediately after referencing past attempts (not bonds yet, wait for it) and finally stating that bonds are an alternative solution to provide a way for the community to satisfy the demand of players wanting to buy gold. (Oddly enough, in the middle of all that they also stated they're not prepared to sell gold lol)

My apologies for misunderstanding. I took your statement of you not being able to be disappointed because they have little respect to lose as you not respecting them. I agree that it's wrong for them to have a double standard on rwt, but my interpretation of respect is you respect someone or you don't. Personally I respect the good they provide enough to accept their flaws. They're just trying to stay above water

idc anymore, i did stop playing because i hated sof but like i said i just don't care anymore, i play again now and just do what i like to do and just let what's going to happen happen because there's absolutely nothing you can do to stop them.

i think the game looks ace nowadays and runs so smooth with hi fps even on a lame set up so all the cash they make from sof and new bonds will make is a good thing i guess. (am still not a fan of all the bs but hay ho, life go's on lol)
