Well I guess I won't have access to 'certain' future content then. :@

I can't quite put it into words what this seems like, but there will always be issues with anything you put out. Players will need help with content, services, etc. Restricting content because I don't or can't use authenticator? I am flabbergasted and appalled.

"We still recommend that all users upgrade to Authenticator as soon as possible. To ensure the highest levels of account security, some future RuneScape features will only be available to those who have enabled RuneScape Authenticator."

I'm more curious about what future RS features would not be available if you do not have authenticator...

Eventually? Everthing. they already made Authenticator a requirement for their companion app. next it'll just be the whole game even if JAG is kept for some.. they'll force them over as well

I'm very disappointed JAG won't be removed. It means JAGEX is going to expend a lot of hardware and resources which will be wasted on an antiquated system of security. Why? All because there are people in the community who:

A) Can't read the post JAGEX made about what authenticator really is, how it works, and that you don't need a smartphone. Just about every response I've seen includes this "I don't have a smartphone" response, which immediately indicates to me they didn't properly read about the topic of the authenticator.
B) Don't understand security in the least, and make these uneducated posts about how JAG is this unhackable security system better than current industry standard security policies.

This isn't an antiquated system of gameplay -- that's different. If people want different gameplay, so be it. That's part of what they're selling.

Security is a different matter though, all together. It does not, or should not, require the opinion of the community like this. The only requirement it should have, is that it works and protects users. That's it.

I really hope JAGEX reconsiders, and decides to get rid of JAG when they re-evauluate this at a later date.

You do realise all the awful things about this new system aren't in the post and you have to wade through a links in the wiki FAQ about it to get the truth?

For example.
"
If you are trying to login from a new PC but do not have your device with you, simply click on the ‘disable authenticator’ link on screen and an email will be sent to your registered email containing a link to disable the authenticator. With the authenticator disabled, you’ll be able to access your account, but we strongly recommend that you re-enable the authenticator when you get your device back.
"

How does that sound more secure than Jag? That actually sounds far worse. How about you do some actual research before going off of what simply gets handed 2 u

Again going off my first post this type of system CAN work extremely well when it is done using FIRST PARTY software. Look at major MMO's like Final Fantasy they sell their own security key generators that is a physical item you can actually hold in your hand with no way to access it from a computer or be hacked. Unless you actually have it stolen from your own person it is 100% safe and hack proof.

Jagex seems like they simply went with the absolute cheapest option available because they want to save money.
