I did all of that and it didn't work. I think Ill call this update Jagexs mistake. Lol
did you read the rest of the forum link I gave where is gave info about if your time clock isn't correct it can stop it being accepted?
In case it is that follow that forum link info to check
.
You may already have done this but its worth a try.
Having said all that and I have it set up, I still think JAG should be reinstated.
Heck I'd be happy to have jag and authenticator set up so I am doubly and triply safe, my account is so important to me.
At my age I just can't start over.
Good luck and got my fingers crossed for you.
I will edit this after i find the forum link again
edit Quick find code: 14-15-744-65405113
Here is the relevant bit from the quick link. Hope it helps
It's still not working! What do I do?
This is probably because the date and time on your PC is not completely up to date.
To set it up, you need to:
1. Click on the date and time that's shown on the lower right corner of your screen
2. Click on Date and time settings (could be slightly different worded, I'm on a Dutch Windows)
3. Click on Change Timezone on the Date and Time tab and pick your current timezone.
4. Click on Change Settings on the Internet Time tab, check the box that says "synch clock with an internet time server" and type in time.windows.***
(*** = the first 3 letters of commercial)
5. Click on "Ok" to save those settings and then click on "Ok" again to close the Date and Time settings.
Your clock should now be synched.

Thx for trying to help. But jagex should cancel the update if not a lot of people r gonna use the authenticator. If they do this theyre gonna lose money and accounts including mine.
The code I receive from the Authenticator isn't working, why not?
The code your Authenticator generates changes every 1 minute or so. It might be that you've entered your code too late.
Also, you could've forgotten to hit the refresh button on WinAuth.
If that doesn't solve it, right-click your Authenticator and click on Sync Time.
Do post up here sausagefreak if either of these get you enabled.
But yes we still need JAG.
Jagex please have both as security measures we can use please pretty please with sugar on top

What is Jagex thinking!! Why didn't they put it up for a vote? And even if they did put it up for a vote and it magically won by let's say 60% what about the 40% that probably don't have a smart phone, are you just going to let them get hacked and frustrated so bad they will leave the game? I'm sure Jagex put hard work into making the Authenticator, but it's a bad idea if your replacing JAG with it. I don't have a smart phone mainly because at work it can easily get broke, and I'm not going to get one just because a game I randomly play now requires it. Btw is it alright if we go ahead and report the authenticator in a bug report?
Jagex thinks this update is better. ITS WORSE!!!!!!! The code on the phone will be like a third ********. This increases the chances of us the players being hacked. The JAG saved me from being hacked last year and I have a feeling this one wont.

ROFL.......what a strange audience. All regurgitating the same thing "I don't have a smartphone".........so what?? You don't need a smartphone for this.
Neither do you need a second PC.......
You can run it from an USB stick or the cloud........so please stop this nonsense about not having a smartphone........when it is not needed. Next thing people will say they don't have a gas oven so can't run it......WTF.
Dark Jam*i then please be our guest and write out directions for those of us that have no clue what you're talking about. "The cloud" .... how does all this work. I have 1 pc, no smart phone, no tablet. I refuse to download 3rd party stuff on my pc.

The thing is Dark Jam*i, that this is a big change for people, many of which are not up to date with the latest technology, hence there is a lot of confusion.
There is no need to mock people because they don't understand.
I found a forum link using winauth and have managed to get it running, but many haven't been successful, and not because they are stupid which seems to be what you are implying (correct me if I am wrong)
What is needed is that JAG remains in place at least until this is sorted, and hopefully after as an additional security measure.
You have a large range of ages playing runescape, some younger whose parents won't allow them to run 3rd party apps even from a usb stick. They also need secure accounts.
Then there is the older population who aren't tech savvy trying to work out how to run a 3rd party app as they don't have a phone, and many things could be making the app not work for them.
People are scared about losing their accounts and Jagex needs to provide technical help. People "complain" or what you call moan because they are concerned about their account safety or can't get the apps to work , so they are frustrated and found Jag worked for them, so question the change.
