Something about this is off. I won't accuse MMG of lying however I don't understand how a multimillion organization has allowed illegal businesses to DDoS them for over a year now when a simple Google search floods you with services to prevent such a thing. At the very least just one of these would be enough to handle the bratty kids that, as you've claimed, have been DDoS attacking you.

It's lose lose, either there have been lies or your security has been so astoundingly flimsy that people asinine enough to brag about doing so online are capable of disrupting the game on this kind of scale.

Either way this article was clearly made to create a scapegoat, true or not, and frankly it hasn't made me feel very secure about the game.

1. It has not been happening for over a year, it's been happening since last month. I have had ZERO connectivity issues in the last year.

2. They aren't bratty kids, they are an organized group of people from RWT businesses in foreign countries capable of much more than a couple of bratty kids.

I wish you all the best luck. I'm often critical of jagex and their updates, but i was pretty sure these dcs had nothing to do with you. Keep working, and may the ddosers internet always fail while they are watching ****.

God, doesnt anyone seem to call Bs on this? seems like everyone is kissing up to jagex.
If a company can't keep some severs up i find that illogical that a couple of guys could ddos a whole company, a company that should have the wealth to maintain some decent severs.

More RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE from the lacking-reading-and-comprehension-skills department.

Try comprehending and answering this: Why would IVP, Spectrum and Raine invest millions of pounds in infrastructure in a game with a rapidly declining membership?

I'm going to answer this in several parts.

First and foremost, without the hard figures that only Jagex can supply, 'rapidly' is a rather subjective and over-used word. I'm not going to get into a 'made up stats' match here, but over the lifetime of any subscription-based service, there are going to be peaks and valleys. It's been well-documented that the biggest chunk of players who are no longer online were bots. Believe it or don't, it's up to you.

Secondly, why would they invest millions of pounds in infrastructure on an intellectual property that, as a service, is still quite profitable? Beats the hell out of me. This is a game that was started by a handful of people in a dorm room. Jagex could literally fire 95% of their staff, market the game 'AS-IS', and still turn a profit from it. This is where you would definitely see a 'rapidly declining userbase'; however, it would still remain profitable simply because of those in the installed base who are willing to continue paying to play it.

Do you work for Jagex?.. If not then you should, epic PR!

PS.. ***'on man, we all know Jagex is full of BS.

Over half of that 247k players were gold farming bots. The game hasn't had that many actual players in years. Actually the release of Divination in RS3 and all the recent updates to Old School have resulted in more players. Jagex has put too much time and money into RS3/EoC to ever just "get rid of it". You have to think realistically, they aren't going to throw all that away and spend more time and money re-coding a game they don't have a backup for and that's been gone for over a year.

Getting rid of Old School would be even worse, the amount of time and effort people have put int

Highly doubt that half of those players were bots, especially given that the game had activity in multiple worlds and multiple areas, sure the bots were bad but there was still at least a 70% player base with new players constantly joining, as of this EOC crap being added EOC is practically dead (WITH f2p and WITH gold farming bots) while 07 is just as dead with gold farming bots and no f2p. I can't speak for everyone but a large amount of the community would happily give up oldschool for pre-eoc (with our accounts back ofcourse).

You can sit there and white knight Jagex and EOC but at the end of the day, no matter how much effort went into this crappy little combat change - they're spending MORE effort trying to keep their game alive because they stupidly forced it onto us.
