i voted yes for the prestige system. it has many good aspects about new competition for the ranks, without disadvantages for anybody (except those players who are allready top rank and dont like to work anymore for keeping their rank)

--------------------------------------------------------------
i also would like (and vote yes) about the idea of level 120 skills.
when there are too many players maxed out in all skills after playing only a couple of years, this is boring and not a lifetime game that brings fun for decades.

level 99 was a good limit in the past with slow experience rates, but now after EOC this can be achieved too fast.
if the big mayority of players has not all skills at maximum level then there is more fun in my opinion. a much better role playing game aspect would be there, if some players are specialists for mage, others for melee or range, and again others for non combat skills. only a little group of elite skillers would still be maxed out in all skills.

there could be then a level 99 comp cape/ maxed cape (that allready have very many players now) and a new level 120 comp cape / maxed cape for those outstanding elite players.
new items for levels >99 are just an option for the future then, but not neccessary.
-------------
a possibility could also be to create a new highscrore, where 100 experience points give 1 point in the highscore. the limit of 200m ep in a skill would be extended then by the factor 100.

i think any change in the ranking system that offers new competition would help to make the game more attractive. people who want their current rank for a lifetime without the need of more training in the future can just take a screenshot and keep it.

I thought this was a very good idea, sadly tho it does not seem that many agree. I also think not many knew about this poll. When prestige was mentioned in my clan, I got a heap of "What is that?"

Maybe more players should have been made aware of this poll. Might have changed the outcome. Along with a better understanding before the poll went up, I think some rushed a vote before fully coming to grasp with what you were offering.

* Shrugs * Great Idea, keep them coming .

According to a screenshot of Andrew Gower answering a Q&A in his clan chat I found while googling:

That is there for technical reasons, because your exp actually goes up in 0.1 increments, which means that the total number stored is 2 billion.

The picture cuts off the rest of his response, but I assume he goes into some detail about 32 bit signed integers, seeing as that's why the stack size is what it is, and why they rounded it down slightly.

Software is not PFM. Here is a quick lesson for you before you presume to try and explain "technical reasons"*

*** : By default, the int data type is a 32-bit signed two's complement integer, which has a minimum value of -2^31 and a maximum value of 2^31-1. In Java SE 8 and later, you can use the int data type to represent an unsigned 32-bit integer, which has a minimum value of 0 and a maximum value of 2^32-1. Use the Integer class to use int data type as an unsigned integer. See the section The Number Classes for more information. Static methods like compareUnsigned, divideUnsigned etc have been added to the Integer class to support the arithmetic operations for unsigned integers.

long : The long data type is a 64-bit two's complement integer. The signed long has a minimum value of -2^63 and a maximum value of 2^63-1. In Java SE 8 and later, you can use the long data type to represent an unsigned 64-bit long, which has a minimum value of 0 and a maximum value of 2^64-1. The unsigned long has a minimum value of 0 and maximum value of 2^64-1. Use this data type when you need a range of values wider than those provided by int. The Long class also contains methods like compareUnsigned, divideUnsigned etc to support arithmetic operations for unsigned long.

Changing XP to an unsigned 64 bit (long) integer with an implied decimal point to record 1/10th solves the 200 mil XP cap issue.

Jagex finally closed the poll. It ran 10 hours into October 23rd.

Total Voting: 28,594 - 17432 NO votes and 11162 YES votes.

Final Results: 61% NO versus 39% YES.

No matter how you voted, the most disturbing thing is the low voter turnout. Initially, about 2k people added membership, taking the total from 489K to 491K. It has since dropped to 476K.

Mod Jack has been posting regularly on lore threads over the course of the poll but he and all other J-Mods have gone missing from the discussion on prestige. I find this more than a little disappointing.

Total Number of Votes: 28594

That's not many people. I just happened to stumble on the poll at the last minute to vote. They needed to do a better job at letting people know about the poll. Many of my clan mates didn't even know about the poll and where disappointed to know they missed voting. I voted yes because it doesn't hurt anyone if they added it. its totally optional.

As far as going to 120 level in all skills, do you know how much work that would take to come up with all the content to make it not boring... and prestige would be limitless.
If they went to 120 on all skills I bet more people would be upset they would have to keep working to get maxed to 120. The optional aspect of Prestige is what is most appealing to me.

Sure they would. With prestige some people are upset that they would have to keep working forever. Prestige has no end.

If they extended all skills to 120 many more people would be upset they have to continue working to get maxed AGAIN and people who were so close to 99 would be even more upset because the bar was just raised when they are almost to 99.

Prestige was optional any one could choose not to take part and it was limitless.

Sad to see they didn't do a better job letting people know about the poll.

People may say it's optional while they are trying to get it put into the game but I suspect if we had it it wouldn't be long before people start saying "you're limiting yourself" any time anyone that doesn't do prestige complains about it.

I personally like to have an end goal in my game even if it's far away.
