Hey Runescape combat staff! I know that you guys get a lot of replies about feedback, but it'd be absolutely amazing if you read what I say:
Besides some minor bugs, the new combat evolution beta is all I'd hoped for. It's revolutionized a simple Dragonfable-like combat system into something greater. I especially love the new concept of the Ability book. The Ability book has attacks on skills including attack, def, str, magic, ranged, and etc. But what would be great is if there were abilities related to Agility, such as Dodge and Evade, the animation effects of which could depend on the environment. Anoter cool thing would be Counter-Attack, like that in Assassin's Creed. I love how you guys have worked really hard on this aspect, but these new additions would be amazing and would add a new level of lethal-ness to combat. Also, I love how the new magic isn't simply rune-intensive and a spellbook. But attacks like "Dragon-fire breath" could've been introduced into a player's repertoire through quests or tutelage under different masters (with Runespan-like practiced magic siphoning, meditating, and all that lovely Christopher Paolini's Inheritance saga stuff). Isn't there a quest called the Firemaker's curse that preludes the ability to breathe fire in the Circus anyways? If you guys could start borrowing game mechanics from amazing franchises like Assassin's Creed, which has single-handedly revolutionized combat, naval battles, etc, or simply start looking into these ideas, some of which I've borrowed from other players, Runescape would be so much more amazing.
Great job effecting this new update. This was huge and a lot of people's hard work had to be needed. Thanks, and well-wishes for the future.

I really hope you aren't getting rid of all the special abilities of items in RuneScape with this update. Like the Staff of Light sometimes giving you a free cast or the dharok's and guthan's set effects. It would just ruin both the current G.E economy and the items themselves. It would just be boring if there were no items with their own abilities anymore!

First, I wish there was a specific forum for those of us testing only...since I had to go 109 pages to get to the end where someone was ACTUALLY talking about the Beta and not that its not fair they didn't get included...
Secondly I like the actual beta so far only saddening thing is all the "work" we are doing on skills while testing is just time wasted when we go back to play on normal servers this....is a bummer I mean I TOTALLY understand not transferring items to norm servers but we did tech earn the xp.... I have only tested it for a few hours so as of right now I have no 100% opinion on it will return later with my full opinion TY :)

I have a bunch of problems with this BETA update, which is unfortunate because I was believing the hype and thought it would be epic.Testing it helped me see the following:
1) I'm 99 mage and magic is extremly weak. I was wearing full viritus and using the wand, why is it I could only hit in the 100 - 200s? That's unacceptable seeing as I used to hit 400s.
2) You guys changed the name of the ancient magick spells so that they are more associated with elementals. The only problem with that is, that they still look like the old spells. My suggestion is, if you change Shadow to Rock incorporate some earth style to it; the same thing goes for Bloodfire.
3) What's the deal with these orbs? You made them so mages get a boost but the boost isnt much so it is in fact useless and only good to look at. I suggest giving the orb sheild capabilities or make the orb have an additional effect that does damage.
4) Why is it that no crossbow was strong enough for me to use dragon or onyx bolts? (I'm 99 range so my level cannot be the issue.) Please tell me that this is a glitch, otherwise you guys have some more work to do.

Two questions: will I keep my Dark Bow that I had on the main game?
Does this mean if I get an Abyssal Whip drop from an Abyssal Demon that I won't be able to keep it?
Have you been using abilities? Without use of abilities, attacks aren't as powerful.

So far, I do like the new combat system though there's some things i'd like to see tweaked.
1. multicombat while in itself isn't bad is just too much for every single monster. Some things now attack me that I don't have the slayer level to cause damage to, whereas before they only attacked if I messed up and attacked them first.
2. I'd like to be able to sort the abilities book myself, or see some sort of organization to it. I saw a suggestion earlier of color coding the different abilities.
3. The graphics for the female character, particularly the face, are a bit messed up and appear ugly.
4. Mage seems underpowered to me, I'll continue testing to see if this still holds true. I dont like the way the spells are laid out in the abilities book, I prefer the table layout as in regular rs.
5. Range is awesome, love it. One question though, how will bakriminel bolts be affected with this?
6. Combat level:the new formula just doesnt work for me. In regular rs I dont like not knowing one's true combat potential. I recognize that this new formula is intended to show one's 'true potential', however it's just as misleading as the old formula. Two players could be identical cb lvls but have no clue what potential they have in prayer, summoning, herb, lp, or other 3 areas of combat that contribute to their potential. I just dont see how this could accurately portray potential when not considering all areas that contribute to combat, and just calculating partial information.
All in all, I am enjoying trying out the new system! It will take some getting used to. So far I like it.
I'll keep posting comments/suggestions as I continue to test out as many aspects and areas of combat as I can.

where do i start.. i think u had some good, some bad ideas on how this game re-work should be done..
likes:
-new armour parts to complete sets, bandos boots, gloves, shield/torva/pernix etc- brill idea badly needed.
-the duel wielding, amazing though this means a stupid amount of dunging for every1 or they wont be able to join in most bosses. and why are they "offhand" this makes them ridiculously expensive in hours, i can live with that.. just barely...
-the way your weapons are stored on your back when not in use.
dislikes:
-the button bashing approach used by most mmo games, hence y i play rs and have done for donkeys years, its too frantic and makes it too difficult to keep an eye on all the things u have 2, i like the idea behind it but it needs to be less frantic somehow. plus we now dont have the weapons specs which are needed all over runescape!
- forcing people to fight high lvl creatures to lvl combat.... why? if i wanted to kill cows or chickens then why the hell shouldn't i? not that i do but i cant even kill ankous anymore without losing my xp
-the combat lvl... you changed it to make it easy to understand for the idiot schoolkids but what its actually done is make it so that no1 can actually tell anything from sum1s combat lvl, i mean u know that sum1 with combat 138 is hardcore but someone with combat 130 is missing some summ, now every1 is the same lvl, its like in pandering to the idiots you have made it impossible to know what ur getting urself into in pvp or most minigames..
- the new way of showing armours stats, or should i say not showing them. well how in blazes are u supposed to know what amour defends best against now.. memory of how hard things hit u?? again in pandering to idiots who dont understand simple concepts you have made the game a lot less understandable
i know u guys worked real hard and its only beta but this needs fixing as we play runescape for what it is not what other games are! unique.. please take this on board jagex..

this is great. the beta runs very smoothly.
adding new abilities and custom weapons or armor would be desirable.
the only thing is this technically may cause some problems some player i think are puting alot of the free armor in the bank when the beta merges with the actual game some of this armor and weaponry may remain. now it may make some players rich however, it could also be a blow to the ge economy.
though the beta overall i like is there a possiblility of making a prayer bonus?
such as with the hp bonus with armor say fury ammy and explorers' ring give some prayer bonus so adding prayer points?

I dont know any more games except RS. I felt in love with this game becouse it was simlpy and very intuitional. Now, in this update, it stops be simply. Choosing from the ability book is complicated, too many options, too many resolutions. I dont like it. Maybe therefore I dont fight, only for slayer from time to time.
It is not an update - it is NEW GAME. New rules. I cant comrehend it all and this new game discourage me.
Hard acces for spels - if I want make an high alchemy for example I have to looking for it from a long long list of spels. Now there is one panel of spells - if I have some runes in my inventory the active spels are shining, are active, I know I can use it. In the new game every spel seems to be active:/
I dont like it. Maybe I'm too old (30+).
So -thank you Jagex for beta tester invitation. I will not testing it any more. Day this New Game replace My Runescape will be one of my most sadly days :/
