A bit of pertinent background. I'm an old lady compared to many RS players--55 now. I played this game for years. I loved it--the skill challenges, the quests, the interaction with other players, etc. I didn't care for the wildy update, but I learned to live with it. I thought that would be the case with EOC, but it wasn't.
I tried playing after the EOC update, but I just couldn't seem to get enthused about the combat, which is a big part of the game, even, at some point, for skillers. I wouldn't call myself a skiller, but I suppose that's what I was, because I'm just not very good at combat. I liked to dedicate about 50% of my mental resources to RS while I applied to other portion to playing WWF or Scrabble, or surfing the Web. With EOC I couldn't get away with that. There was too much clicking. Too much multi-combat. I suddenly had to take a yak with a full inventory of food to fight things I could easily cream previously.
I thought I was adapting to this. I thought, I don't like it but I guess I can live with it, but I also found myself logging in less and less, until I couldn't bring myself to log in at all. I've been thinking about dropping the membership, but I haven't gone quite that far due to a sense of loyalty I feel toward Jagex. But eventually I knew I'd need to unsubscribe. It makes no sense to pay a monthly fee for a game I'm not playing.
I like the idea of being able to play the '97 version, but not if I'm penalized financially. I didn't ask for these EOC updates: End of discussion. Give me back MY RS, but don't ask me to pay for Jagex's stubborness. If something's not working it's not working. EOC is obviously not working, or we wouldn't be having this discussion.
I'll be watching.
