First off I'd like to say that this is great and I'm very happy Jagex has considered the route of bringing back an older server. This is great news, especially for players like myself who have been around for many many years (this account is just shy of the 10 year vet. cape).
The thing that concerns me is that the plan is for the accounts to be wiped and everyone start fresh. This is a huge decision to be made and will drastically influence how the server would be reintroduced. The biggest issue is the amount of time that would be required for a player to get their account up to where it actually was in 2007. Many of my old RS playing friends and I have talked about it and none of us are willing to commit the time to an account like we did when we were 13 or 14 as we are now adults with jobs, school, wives, children or whatever else we decided to do with our lives. This update is obviously intended to make the "old school" players happy and so it should be released in a way that makes people happy. Having to put in time to an account that people already put into it wouldn't make anyone happy, especially since in 2007 it was significantly more difficult to train than it is today.
The training issue isn't the only thing that is a huge turn off. A few of the other problems are obvious: discontinued items won't be available, bots will be very much in demand as there will be no raw materials and no GE to help pool materials together and several other issues with armour and weapon availability. All of these issues are rooted in accounts being wiped.
Instead of doing an account wipe, I propose that Jagex do a rollback on accounts to the August 2007 date. It is a reasonable alternative as the accounts that were around back then are the players who will be wanting the server back and so will get a bank, that they earned already, back into the game.
