If you are to abide by what you have said here in making 2013 a year of better communication and a year which is flexible for the players’ desires, honesty needs to be fundamental to your strategy. Assuming what you have posted is your aim and “to look back over the huge, game-spanning changes that we made last year, look at what we did right and where we could have improved, and to lay out our plan for 2013 so you guys are involved from the start” is effectively your mission statement, you should stick to this and not shy away to “quality profit” if the community means as much to you as you claim.
In the past we have seen you bring the Wilderness back after strongly saying “No, it won’t be coming back”. We’ve seen you claim that you would never “RWT” yet introduce Squeal/SGS. We’ve also seen you claim that the Evolution of Combat will balance melee/magic/range and then release three level 90 weapons, courtesy of the Kalphite King for melee and thus far no such things for mage/range. Arguably yes, the EoC has improved this. But as you have said yourselves, “on-going improvements” will be required. The complete annihilation of bots and gold farmers is in the players’ interests and with that in mind, any such huge steps forward (without allowing the bot programmers to use this information to their advantage) should be released to the players.
To a large extent, an element of surprise within the game for the RuneScape community is something many players look forward to. Thank-you for telling us the truth about Squeal/SGS and confirming large amounts of players’ sceptical beliefs and as long as the finance attained from “micro-payments” is used wisely, I am sure RuneScape will prosper.
Good luck with 2013, yourselves!
