Gamer Safety Week

This week is Gamer Safety Week , and Jagex are taking part.

Gamer Safety Week is an annual opportunity to promote account safety and security, and ensure that you have the knowledge you need to keep your accounts where they belong: in your hands.

A couple of minutes spent taking a few simple steps will prevent your online experience turning sour should someone try to hijack your account.

These are the front-line options for ensuring that only you have access to your account:

Jagex Account Guardian

Once you’ve enabled Jagex Account Guardian (or JAG), only specific devices chosen by you will be able to access your account.

Email Recovery

Registering an email onto your account ensures that you can recover your account at the drop of a hat if your password is forgotten or changed by someone else.

Bank PIN

Set up a bank PIN and - should the unthinkable happen and someone else gains access your account - they won’t be able to steal your loot.

The following methods are applicable across all online accounts:

  • Ensure your password is strong and not easily guessable.

  • Use anti-spyware or anti-malware software and keep it up to date. You can find a list of good programmes here .

  • Educate yourself on phishing and avoid opening potentially harmful emails once you know the warning signs.

  • Most importantly, don’t share any of your personal information! The vast majority of account security breaches occur because of a shared password – keep it to yourself.

For more detail on this, take a look at our security tips page .

You’ll find everything you need - during Gamer Safety Week and beyond - on our official Account Security wiki and the Official Jagex Support YouTube Channel.

Shouldn't ingame scams (not just phishing sites) have a bit of support on the list.
Trust trading for example, doubling "if it's too good to be true it 99% is"
Common lures
Etc

Reason being, why not go the extra mile since it is Gamer Safety Week!

We also need to find a way to stop penguins abducting us ingame

I have no idea who my favorite teacher was.

I recommend SuperAntiSpyware.

I was wondering if the future of Runescape Forums would have or allow: protected links provided by users, attachment features, etc. to add on to 'forum user safety'.

As much as it all sounds good, it still makes me worried that I have a friend who has emailed the accounthelp email without his account as much as being locked when he has mailed you first 3 *this would be censored anyway* and transactions from first and recent membership and such.
I agree that he was a derp for not having activated his JAG (he did on other accounts now), but yet it's unfair that it can take you longer than the bank PIN will last to just lock the account with such proof of ownership.

EDIT: Haven't heard from him today yet as he's at work, but as nothing had happened yesterday (3 days after the hijacking) I'm not really confident it has changed :(

Thanks for this!

Does this foreshadow a rework of the Stronghold of Player Safety and the Stronghold of Security? They are among the most out-dated places in the free-to-play area currently.

I am glad Jagex informing new ones how to be safe, there is lots of ways people can trick you, by fake phising emails, be sure to check where the email came from, also in-game, some people advertise fansites, don't ever think going into one of that. Thanks.

Learned my lesson about JAG, forgot 1 answer and nearly lost my account. If you have a computer quit, get another, and forget answers your account is gone forever. I have pin + strong pass + don't visit sites that can steal my pass and I am the only person on this 'puter. I have good protection with antispyware, antikeylogger, antivirus, and 3 firewalls (modem/router/computer). I spend most of my day behind a VPN for extra protection.
