Everyone is so quick to voice their negative opinions. People don't seem to realise that unless JaGex gets the revenue the company needs then RuneScape will be sucked into a void and the world will end.
If the SoF were removed and the slight advantage that players wishing to endulge in the purchasing of spins gained were taken away, JaGex would have to find new ways to profit, and these would be very likely to be far more unpopular with certain parties than the SoF.
Which would people rather have, a game that is arguably a tiny bit prone to NON-corrupt rwt (as a means of sustaining the company whose services YOU enjoy), or a company that has to fire half their staff and significantly reduce the number of content updates, or worse still, no game at all?
People see that others posting on this thread share their strongly negative (and in many cases Socialist) opinions, and vent their anger in the same way. Thus many get the impression that they, those who oppose the SoF are the majority of the RuneScape community. This is a fundamental misconception, as those who are pleased by the content are less likely to feel the need to comment than those who dislike it strongly.
The benefits to the RuneScape community are greater than the benefits to the spin-purchasing individuals, since spin rewards are low in comparison to the amount of money spent on purchasing SoF spins. The money is spent sustaining JaGex, the overlord of browser-based gaming.
Suffice to say, although I am aware of the moral drawbacks of having the SoF, overall I am in favour of its presence in the game, and would urge others to rethink their dismissive and negative outlooks on the feature.
