I've only ever felt unwelcome and disrespected on the forums.

I feel like the forum community is only ever interested in defending Jagex and Runescape from criticism, and they aren't willing to accept that this game might have legitimate problems.

Regardless of what you may think, Here is the undeniable truth:

Runescape has bugs.


Game designers are human beings and make mistakes


Some people are unhappy with the direction of the game


toxic people exist in the Runescape community, both in game and on the forums


The Runescape community as a whole has been fairly toxic towards me over the years, and only members of my clan have bothered to talk to me and treat me fairly.

I started playing over 10 years ago, and in just my first few months, I had learned not to trust other players, having been scammed out of a set of armor, lured into clan wars, and griefed by another player closing a door at the champion guild while I was being attacked.

I also experienced a lot of harassment on my journey to 120 dungeoneering, for being slower and learning. (I believe the DG lever room is one of the most toxic pieces of gameplay to exist in the game)

If you've ever seen the portable skilling world, You'll quickly find out that a lot of bigoted people are in this game saying some pretty foul stuff.

or not saying anything at all. other players have outright gotten ANGRY at me for approaching their character in game and asking what they were up to. telling me "none of your business" or demanding that I tell them why I want to know, as if I was grilling them on it...
The majority of players barely speak to one another outside of their clan chats.

The worst of the worst are the subtle trolls who troll people without breaking rules. intentionally being disruptive and antagonistic without clear wrongdoing being detected on them.

And don't get me started on slayer spots...

I've seen overt sexism here on the forums. and I was actually told by a moderator at one point not to speak out against it because it would only cause more problems.
To the point of having my threads locked for responding to trolls that attacked me based on my gender.

this isn't a fun inclusive place for anybody who wants to bring attention to the negative aspects of the Runescape community...

I really love this game, and I'm excited about the skilling only boss coming out soon (Woodcutting is my first and only 200m exp skill).
But the community and multiplayer aspects are really painful at times.

The competitive and elitist aspects of the game impede peoples already poor social skills. A lot of gamers have difficulties relating to people, and it's even more difficult to empathize with someone else over a computer screen in a video game.

People are very wrapped up in their goals and exp rates that communication suffers as a result.

Honestly I think part of it could be game design related as well. Back in the early days of runescape before manual abilities, when fighting monsters you just clicked on them and waited for them to die, giving you time to chat with nearby people.
But bossing and combat is so intense, that you can't do it effectively while chatting.
Unless you're at some slayer spot with aggro potions or something, but that's not the case for every player.

I agree that the forums are not the friendliest bunch BUT, have you seen other MMORPG's forums? Same as here if not worse.

As far as slayer spots, i have switched worlds myself alot at times. But i always offer to
share my spot if someone shows up after me.

I am super sorry that you haven't had alot of positive interactions in this game. To me,
its one of the best parts.

Hope you have good luck in the future and you can always PM me. The richest person is not who has the most. It is who Needs the least.

Hello,

Partly true, but saying something on behalf of the whole community is pretty intense. Absolutely we have toxic players or players who prefer to play only your game and not get involved with the community, making the community a little less receptive, and I believe this also happens on teams (jmods and fmods), but I don't see this happening for most of the users of this forum, and that these problems are in virtually every others games and communities (i can say for myself, as im from Brazilian Community). Remember that we are also players and human beings, we make mistakes a lot and when we make mistakes we are more noticed, it's that old saying "get it right a thousand times and no one will say anything, make a mistake once and everyone will judge you" or something like that.

I think the big question is, what in your opinion would make the forum a more receptive environment where you feel respected? I'm really sorry for your feelings, I'm in love with the forums for years, especially those of the Brazilian community, and it's sad to see other players with negative experiences in relation to the forums, I hope these experiences don't discourage you in relation to the game and that you continue participating here with us :)

...can be said to be true for any game, not just RS.
You can not expect everyone to agree with everything you post, and yes, some people will disagree in an unpleasant manner - unfortunately this is the way of the imperfect world. Fortunately your sensitivities have the safety net of the rules of the forum and the rules of the game to help you. 'Ignore' is a wonderful tool.
