u say ur being disrespected and feel unwelcome its because thats how u treat people who dont agree with ur point of view on the subject u bring it on urself by treating others opinions like trash.

Agreed.

As they say, treat others the way you wish to be treated.

So if you're noice to others they'll hopefully be nice in return.

I'm sorry you've had a bad experience. I know that sometimes people aren't always the nicest. One thing I've learned over my years, is that you can't help how someone else feels, but you can for sure, help how you feel.

At the end of the day, the only person who can control you, is you. I try to focus on the positives, rather then the negatives. At this day and age, allot of people have lost sight yes, but there are just as many good ones out there. For every troll you see, there is at least 10 good people to counter-act it.

I've had my fair sure of meeting people whom are bad, but I've met allot of incredible people. Keep your head up and don't react to the negative stuff. Show your above it and stay positive! :)

Runescape has bugs.

clearly.

Game designers are human beings and make mistakes

Sure, but nothing is wrong with holding them accountable, even harshly, for not properly testing things even if they were rushed out by upper management. We're not told who to direct our criticism towards, so to the mods it goes.

Some people are unhappy with the direction of the game

Gee, I wonder why???

toxic people exist in the Runescape community, both in game and on the forums

My issue is from the sounds of it, you literally, not unlike many others in game and on the forums, are looking for the slightest thing to be upset about. This isn't Twitter, this is an online game and the game's forums. Your post reads like a wannabe heroine trying to make everyone hold hands and sing songs, or be banned, terminated, no second chances, face and name smeared cross-platform. If you don't like what people have to say, ignore it, like every other functioning adult.

The combat system is instantly hard to learn. I try looking up combo attacks and they all reference the multi-hit abilities.

You would think combos don't even exist. The only ones described in the ability tooltips don't even work on most bosses. Stuns and knockbacks.

A real combo attack is like when Hulk Hogan punches someone, kicks them in the face and THEN gives the leg drop. It's not 4 leg drops in a row.

The example ability bars are generally based on hitting a damage increasing ultimate and then thresholds as often possible. Which makes sense, but what about the rest of the abilities which may only exist to annoy me. I'm not seeing a lot to do that I would consider fun.

I'm not even talking about bossing, that's a whole other can of worms. I'm talking about the things before that. Like, what even is a stun, what even is a bind? What does it even do? It's still not clear to me at all and there is nothing in the game that actually explains it. What is a channelled ability, what is a bleed, what even does ability damage mean? Why do I get messages when equipping bolts and a crossbow that I'll do less damage than expected, but no explanation of what I'm doing wrong when the crossbow description says I should use bolts with it? There is literally no explanation or tutorial for any of these things, and new players shouldn't be expected to scan through dozens of chaotic wiki pages written by people assuming their readers already know everything just to find out what any of this means. Looking up the ability on the wiki often tells you nothing on these basics. The game doesn't indicate at all why my abilities often don't fire. Like I click the ability, then attack some NPC, and the ability doesn't seem to fire at all. But there's no message of "ability Ricochet unable to fire because X", it just doesn't fire and that's that.

I'm happy to see this thread unlocked. I'm glad to finally see my opinions on these issues cleared up, and presented to people again.

I went ahead and read every post since then and I wanted to offer a counter to some misconceptions about the purpose of this thread.

The 4 bullet points I listed in red, about the game having bugs and toxic players. I'm well aware that any game with lots of players is going to have these problems, in fact that kind of the point.
I know other video games with higher playerbases probably experience even MORE toxicity than Runescape.

But my contention wasn't just that Runescape has problems like any other game, but rather the communities response to criticism.
I needed some bullet points that were so clear and obvious that any rational person would agree.
of course pretty much ALL video games has bugs duh.

The Runescape community is unique in the sense that some of the players do not like to see the game criticized, and tend to take it as a personal insult, since they have invested a lot of time and energy into it.

I didn't name one person.
and I didn't suggest any punishments or bans or anything like that.
I've never suggested any account be "terminated" ever on this game. (Except botters)

I'm curious why you painted me this way, when I'm clearly not this type of person that you have imagined...

I don't consider myself a "heroine" for making observations and opinions about a video game. I want Runescape to succeed and thrive with good updates, and bringing light to the negatives aspects is an extremely important process toward improvement.

I've ran into roughly equal amounts of positivity and negativity while speaking to people in game, not so much in the forums, as most of my forum use is just finding the answers to simple questionsand moving on. One thing I have learned from any online interactions over the years is knowing where you might find the types of people you would want to speak to. Is there a way in your interaction to be antagonistic or aggressive towards other people? Then you will probably find that kind of interaction going on there (sadly this includes most competitive sides of gaming). But if your approach to any conversation is positive, even if the other person reacts badly, don't lose heart, just take pride in the fact that your intentions were pure and positive. If they react badly, then block/mute them and move on. Unfortunately the Internet is the wild west in a way, as we do have the disconnect of sitting in front of a screen, but just try and imagine that there is a real person behind there and they have their own problems in life to deal with just like yourself. There are also plenty of people here that will be lovely to talk to. If they are being downright offensive, then 100% that #@¡& should not be tolerated and report them. Never ever let someone tell you not to raise a fuss about derogatory statements. That needs to be stamped out. But as hard as it may seem, it's always within your power to be better than that and move on feeling good and that is your choice!

I wish you some happy scaping with the good side of the community!

Definitely support the sentiments described above. I'm glad Kari re-opened this thread, as I think it's important to discuss ways to improve the community.

Since maxing my childhood account, I only play Ironman mode now. I can say from experience that the Ironman community is more supportive.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of elitists out there, but overall, people want to help you grow and get better. There is no one scamming you or trying to make a quick buck at your expense, something that is prevalent with regular accounts. People may be 'toxic', but at least we can choose not to be friends with them and ignore them, if we must.

I do think Croesus was a step in the right direction for bringing people together. More activities where people can work together and collaborate to earn rewards together would help improve the community as a whole. I specifically like that I can do this boss with other 'normal' accounts, as its a rare opportunity for them to work with Irons and bring these communities together.

I would say that there are some very respectable helpers on the forums.

Although I do feel I am being unjustly ignored by Jagex with regards to my recent posts about have an appeal process for banned accounts.

With regards to gameplay; I have mostly played osrs recently and would say that OSRS is just crying out for some minigames like Stealing Creation or Conquest. They need these to remind people that this is actually a game, and not just a grind.

Although unfortunately I think the toxicity culture online is a trend we're seeing across all platforms and not just Runescape. People are able to hide behind their anonymity and say/do whatever they like without consequence.

I have similar views, but the decent folk are worth 100x more than the intolerable ones.
Plus there are only so many friends you need (in RS and in life) quality over quantity. :)
