I think it was a lot better like a decade and a bit back. Nowadays the forums are mostly dead with very few people still on here. I have over 30.000 posts here, most of them from back in the days.
I think the game direction is also partly to blame for it. Skilling has become more and more afking. You click on an Elf in prif to pickpocket and then sit back for five minutes until you get caught, then you click another one and wait for five more minutes. It's not interesting gameplay, it's just boring. It feels like the servers also became laggier, they used to be able to handle 2000 players just fine, now it feels like I'm on the verge of game crashes whenever there are more than 150 players in a world with how sluggish it starts to run, so you barely ever meet anyone else. And if you do, they are usually doing something else than actively playing the game.
I think the game has also become a lot less easy to get into, loads of parts of the game are so overly complicated and confusing they're just incomprehensible, like the combat system. I still have no idea why there are so many abilities and how to actually make my character use them faster than like on the fifth thing I kill after clicking the ability, if it ever fires at all. I still have no idea how to reorder abilities in the menu, the ui is confusing and doesn't show it. There are so many terms in combat descriptions that are never explained and players are just assumed to understand or know what it means. There's no tutorial or anything to teach you basics.
And so much content seems aimed at people having like 4 hours or even more to play per day, like Yak Track is so incredibly grindy that you simply cannot complete it and still have a life. There's so much end-game content that just takes ages to access, there's barely anything for more casuals that afk no-life exp maxing almost feels like the only way to keep up.
