The Runescape community is Bad

I believe you pretty much get out of any game community what you put into it. For the most part, that has been my experience. Sure, I've run into a couple of asshats, but most everyone I've met in-game or on forums have been cool. That has certainly been true for this game.
For example, earlier tonight I ran into one of my friends at the Lumbridge yews. I went there to complete a Woodcutting Challenge. He is often there chopping and burning yew logs, when he's not killing Hollowtoof and his raiders.
After I finished chopping yews, I told him all I had left to do was a Runecrafting Challenge (not my favorite). He said two of his Daily Challenges were members. We are both F2P, though he used to be a member. When I mentioned blocking member skills from Daily Challenges, he said he should do that, but he wasn't sure how to do this. So I told him who to talk to in Burthorpe. He thanked me and teleported to Burthorpe. Meanwhile, I made a trip to the Water Altar and crafted some ruins to finish my Daily Challenges.
After I banked, I caught up with my friend again, back at the Lumbridge yews. Just then, a goblin raid was announced near the Crafting Guild, so he left to deal with them. Just before he teleported, he thanked me again for telling him how to toggle off skills he did not want Daily Challenges in.
During my first year here, this friend encouraged me and offered me advice. Together, we even defeated Hollowtoof a couple of times. Sure, I can solo Hollowtoof now, but I still remember his kindness towards me during those early months. Now I finally was able to help him with something.
Like any community, the RS community is as bad - or good - as you make it. I've been putting out fire with gasoline!
